Senior Solutions Systems Engineer

Description

This senior role makes you the go-to technical expert for integrated railroad technology across the Digital Intelligence product portfolios.

You set solution architectures, technical standards, integration approaches and technology roadmaps that serve current and future business goals. You work with engineering, product, commercial, operations and customer groups to build solutions that scale, stay reliable and work together.

Responsibilities

• Set and oversee architectures for enterprise solutions that span several customer programs and product platforms.
• Own the solution technology roadmap and the multi-generation technology plans behind it.
• Create solution-level requirements, interface approaches, architecture standards and engineering governance.
• Act as the lead systems engineering adviser on complex customer opportunities, proposals and strategic projects.
• Assess customer requirements, RFIs and RFPs, then shape solution strategies from them.
• Align systems, software, hardware, integration, product and commercial teams.
• Build and spread systems engineering methods, standards and good practice across the Digital Electronics organization.
• Find, assess and reduce strategic technical, architectural and integration risks.
• Turn customer, market and operational needs into direction for future products and platforms.
• Lead technical work during integration, validation, field deployment and performance improvement.
• Coach senior engineers and technical leads and grow systems engineering skill across the organization.
• Speak for systems engineering in executive reviews, strategy sessions, customer meetings and investment discussions.
• You may be asked to take on work outside your function or trade. Training is provided where needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a closely related technical field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, solution architecture, integration engineering or complex technology development.
• Proven record leading architecture and systems engineering on large, multi-product solutions.
• Deep command of systems engineering principles, covering requirements, architecture, verification, validation and lifecycle management.
• Experience setting solution-level standards, methods and engineering best practice.
• Working knowledge of software, hardware, communications, cloud, infrastructure and operational technology integration.
• Advanced skill with requirements management and traceability tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS Next Generation or an equivalent.
• Track record of shaping strategic technical decisions across several organizations without formal authority.
• Record of resolving complex technical, operational and integration problems with major business impact.
• Railroad, transportation, industrial automation or mission-critical systems experience strongly preferred.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading technically across geographically spread teams.
• Strong executive-level communication, stakeholder management and technical presentation skills.

Conditions

Base pay range is $120,600-$171,700. The actual offer depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, experience, education, business needs, market demand and work location.

The pay range may change over time.

Job titles may cover more than one career level.
