DevOps Engineer

Description

The company is hiring several DevOps Engineers to support secure, mission-focused cloud, edge and container environments.

You would automate infrastructure and deployment work, keep operations reliable, and collaborate with engineers and customer stakeholders. Scope and technical depth vary by opening.

Candidates are considered for openings that fit their skills, so experience in every specialty listed below is not expected.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy and maintain secure AWS infrastructure, including Kubernetes environments and managed container workloads.
• Design and improve CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and configuration management.
• Set up and support on-premises or portable edge infrastructure where the opening requires it.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and tune the performance, availability and scalability of applications, clusters and supporting systems.
• Help application teams fit their services into repeatable deployment and release processes.
• Write automation in Python, Bash or Go for operations, deployments and routine administration.
• Keep documentation current, take part in Agile delivery, and strengthen operational security and reliability.
• In leadership-focused openings, mentor teammates, guide troubleshooting and coordinate engineering work.

Requirements

• An active U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher, and U.S. citizenship.
• Depending on the opening, an active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI, or an active TS/SCI clearance, is required.
• Relevant DevOps, infrastructure engineering or software development experience, with education suited to the opening.
• General openings: 5 years of relevant experience with a related bachelor's degree, 3 years with a related master's degree, or 9 years with a high-school diploma or equivalent.
• Leadership-focused openings: 9 years of relevant experience with a related bachelor's degree, 7 years with a related master's degree, or 13 years with a high-school diploma or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or a comparable container orchestrator, Linux administration and troubleshooting, and cloud deployment.
• Experience with AWS services such as EKS, EC2, EBS, S3 or Lambda, plus Terraform, Ansible or equivalent infrastructure and configuration tools.
• Ability to write automation in Python, Bash or Go, and familiarity with Git, Flux or similar delivery tooling.
• Independent problem-solving, clear communication, and the ability to work with Agile delivery teams.
• Ability to meet onsite and travel requirements, which may include 5 days per week at a customer site.
• For designated openings, a DoD 8140 or 8570 compliant certification such as Security+ may be required at start or within a set period after hire.
• Nice to have: experience supporting big data platforms, data lakes or distributed data workloads.
• Nice to have: experience with Hadoop, Accumulo, Ceph, Spark, NiFi, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch or comparable services.
• Nice to have: hands-on work with Helm, Flux, K9s, AWS CLI, and AWS services such as SNS, SQS or Diode.
• Nice to have: experience hardening containers and operating systems for security.
• Nice to have: experience supporting hybrid cloud and edge mission environments.
• Nice to have: experience improving performance in high-availability systems.

Conditions

Some roles are full-time at a customer site in Fort Meade, MD, San Antonio, TX or Fort Belvoir, VA. Others are hybrid, working from the Columbia, MD or San Antonio, TX office.

Onsite frequency, travel and scheduling depend on the opening and the customer's requirements.

Pay depends on location, federal contract labor category, wage rates, experience, skills, education and certifications.

The pay range is $103,690 - $160,605 USD, the same for the Maryland and Virginia listings.
