Description

The team is building a networked game and needs someone to shape its low-level networking layer inside Unreal Engine. You will join at preproduction, so the network is designed for multiplayer from the start rather than added later.

You will report to François Karr, the Technical Director, and work day to day with the Game Programmers (GPP), the Online Lead, the Studio Technical Coordinator, the Game Design team and QA. The team holds 3 stand-ups a week, plus dedicated syncs for each theme or feature.

The hiring process has four steps: a first interview with the HR Manager, a CodinGames test, a second interview with the Technical Director and the Studio Technical Coordinator, and a third interview with the Game Manager and the Studio Manager.

This role can grow into a technical lead position, since becoming the studio's go-to networking expert on Unreal is a rare and in-demand skill set.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the game's network architecture in Unreal Engine with the GPP team, and set the Gameplay team's networking direction through concrete features.
  • Set network targets for latency, bandwidth and stability, and measure against them with Unreal Insights.
  • Own network TRC compliance on every console, and spot certification blockers early.
  • Build continuous integration and automated network tests, and keep them running.
  • Teach the GPPs network best practices, be their main contact on the topic, and document your technical decisions for the GPPs and QA.
  • Within the first months, deliver your first network recommendations and training sessions for the GPPs, and understand the game's networking end to end.

Requirements

  • Strong command of Unreal Engine, with hands-on work in networked gameplay programming, including replication, RPCs and prediction.
  • Working knowledge of Unreal's Gameplay framework. Experience with the Gameplay Ability System is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with console certification (TRC) and its networking rules.
  • Comfort using network profiling and simulation tools such as Unreal Insights and Clumsy, or similar.
  • Professional French and English.
  • You explain complex technical topics clearly and make them easy to follow.
  • You work independently and keep going on a problem until it is solved.
  • You welcome feedback and are willing to question your own choices.
  • You are curious about low-level systems. Interest in physics (Chaos) is a plus.

Benefits

  • A founding role on the network of a game built from preproduction onward.
  • Real technical autonomy, from prototype through certification.
  • Work across several teams, including GPP, Game Design and QA.
  • Health insurance, RTT days, meal vouchers and the company studio perks.
