Senior Java Software Engineer

The team builds trading services that more than 200 organizations use worldwide, and its experts set betting probabilities with proprietary mathematical models.

Clients run their own sportsbooks through web interfaces, where they create events and odds, watch markets and confirm results.

The company is a sports technology firm working where sports, media and betting meet, serving more than 1,700 federations, media outlets, operators and consumer platforms in 120 countries.

The company is growing quickly and has a global footprint, with engineering offices in Europe, Asia and the US.

Hiring runs in four steps: a short call with a Talent Acquisition Partner, a take-home coding task that you complete when it suits you, a technical interview built around that task with live coding and a system design discussion, and a cultural fit interview with senior management about working in a matrix organization. Successful candidates then receive feedback and an offer.

Responsibilities

• Build high-performance services and products on top of real-time sports data gathered around the clock from more than 30 sports.
• Design and build your own services using quality-focused engineering and cloud-first principles.
• Shape the design and technology choices, since your input carries real weight.
• Become a domain expert in real-time sports data.
• Apply ATDD and BDD in your day-to-day work.
• Work with GitHub and GitLab CI.

Requirements

• You enjoy hard problems, stay focused, and treat learning as part of every working day.
• You work well with a varied group of people and keep up with current best practices in your field.
• You see programming languages as tools rather than limits, and you are curious about both technology and people.
• You understand that the hardest problems usually involve people, and you are willing to step outside your comfort zone.
• You have 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong Java skills.
• You have designed and delivered distributed systems in production and know what it takes to keep them running.
• You own complex initiatives from architecture decisions through to post-incident reviews, working independently.
• You mentor others naturally and give technical reviews that are direct, constructive and useful.
• You have a deep grasp of testing strategy, CI/CD and what engineering excellence looks like in practice.
• You explain things clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders and can deliver difficult messages well.
• You have engineering leadership skills, and people look to you as a role model.
• Strong advantage: experience with AWS, Kafka, Kubernetes and microservices at scale.
