Description

The company is a sports technology business working across sports, media and betting. Its products serve over 1,700 sports federations, media outlets, betting operators and consumer platforms in 120 countries.

The iGaming division is building new game experiences, including casino games, virtual sports, live betting products, 24/7 experiences and other sports-inspired concepts. The work joins premium sports content, game mechanics and modern technology.

The role sits in the Vienna or Ljubljana office. You would work closely with engineers, designers and product leads, help shape key technical and creative choices, and build scalable backend systems for a growing game portfolio.

Hiring process: a short online chat with a talent acquisition partner, a take-home technical task, a technical interview with the hiring manager and/or another interviewer to walk through your solution, and a final interview to meet the team and discuss your background, experience and motivation. You then receive feedback and, if successful, an offer.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and improve backend services and game logic for reliable, scalable gaming products.
  • Turn product and game design requirements into sound technical solutions, giving useful feedback and asking clarifying questions.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code that reduces defects, keeps operations efficient and leaves room for growth.
  • Own technical decisions in your area, propose improvements, and take part in planning, architecture discussions and retrospectives.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in software engineering, mainly backend work on production-grade systems.
  • Strong Java skills and hands-on Spring Boot work, including REST APIs, configuration and security basics.
  • Solid grasp of object-oriented design, clean code and principles such as SOLID.
  • Experience designing, building and running backend services in production.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB, covering schema design, efficient queries and indexing.
  • Experience implementing domain logic, business rules or game mechanics in scalable systems.
  • Familiarity with Git and modern workflows, including code reviews and pull requests.
  • Knowledge of messaging and event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar.
  • Practical Docker experience: building images, supporting local development and working with containerised services.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience writing unit, integration and automated tests that keep software reliable and maintainable.
  • Able to work independently and own features from technical design through to production.
  • Strong problem solver with attention to detail, able to balance quality, speed and maintainability.
  • Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and reinforce good engineering practice across the team.
  • Comfortable in an Agile/Scrum setup.
  • Proactive, with a habit of continuous learning.
  • Experience in game development, casino games, virtual sports, betting products or other real-time or high-availability entertainment systems.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, including deployment concepts, Helm, scaling and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience making architecture and technical decisions for scalable, maintainable systems.
  • Ability to design for performance, reliability, observability and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead by example in code quality, reviews, testing discipline and engineering practice.
  • Give the team technical guidance, mentoring and pragmatic decisions.
  • Practical experience using AI tools in software development.
  • Able to critically review AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability.
  • Understand the best practices and limits of AI-assisted development.
  • Comfortable building AI tools into daily engineering work to raise productivity and quality.
