Description

You will work at the point where user insight, product strategy and technology meet, before ideas become roadmap items. This role is for an Innovation UX Designer reporting into the Head of Experience Design Strategy.

The company has run for over 25 years and serves more than 12 million customers, with millions of pet owners across Europe. You will help find new ways for them to find, buy and stay engaged with pet care.

You will shape the questions worth asking alongside Product, Engineering and Commercial teams, linking user needs, business goals and technical possibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead early-stage design exploration that defines the problem itself, across new product areas and business opportunities in pet care
  • Turn user research, market shifts, competitor moves and new technology into clear strategic stories for senior leaders
  • Present future-state concepts, design provocations and strategic direction frameworks to Product, Engineering and Leadership
  • Run structured discovery sprints, from desk research and expert interviews to speculative concepts, to test rough ideas before they are committed to
  • Use foresight methods such as horizon scanning, scenario planning and design fiction to anticipate needs 2 to 3 years ahead
  • Present innovation opportunities as user-centred design challenges grounded in real human needs
  • Work with Engineering early, while the problem is still vague, to judge what is possible and factor feasibility into strategy
  • Produce concept decks, prototype narratives, experience principles and opportunity maps that make abstract ideas concrete enough to debate
  • Bring a strategic UX view into business planning and help decide where exploratory effort goes
  • Track how AI-assisted and generative tools are changing both design practice and the products themselves

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of UX or product design experience, with work that went beyond execution into framing strategic problems
  • Comfortable working when neither the problem nor the solution is defined
  • Experience leading discovery or design sprints
  • Strong systems thinking, able to combine insights from user behaviour, market dynamics, technology and culture into one clear point of view
  • Confident presenter who can make abstract future concepts clear and persuasive to senior audiences without design backgrounds
  • A portfolio showing what you framed, why you framed it, and what came of it, not only what you made
  • Able to move between a whiteboard session and a Figma prototype that makes a concept tangible
  • Interest in AI, both as a tool that changes how design is done and as a force that changes the experiences we design for
  • Experience in an innovation, futures or strategic design team, in-house or at a consultancy
  • Exposure to ecommerce, subscription products or consumer platforms across several markets
  • Familiarity with Jobs-to-be-Done or similar methods for uncovering unmet user needs
  • Experience using generative AI tools in a design or prototyping workflow
  • Familiarity with foresight methods such as horizon scanning, scenario planning and speculative design, even if informal
  • You are happy to present a point of view, not just a deliverable
  • You can spot a pattern across three unrelated data sources and explain why it matters
  • You care as much about which problem to solve as about how to solve it
  • You know when to make a concept concrete and when to keep it deliberately provocative
  • You have influence through the quality of your thinking and how clearly you communicate it
