Description

The company is building a new manufacturing campus in Durham, North Carolina, to expand how it produces medicines and to add jobs in the Research Triangle area.

The campus will bring together advanced manufacturing, laboratory technologies and AI to make immunology, oncology and neuroscience medicines.

The first phase will include production facilities, next-generation laboratories, a warehouse, administrative offices and employee wellness facilities.

This is a program manager role that leads large, company-wide governance and commercial strategy work across global programs, transformation portfolios and project finance. You will work through cross-functional teams and partners. The role has no direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of strategic programs and workstreams from start to finish, setting up governance, financial control, commercial alignment and open delivery reporting.
  • Pull together plans, dependencies, resources, risks and stakeholder expectations so decisions get made on time and results hold over the long term.
  • Lead global programs and transformation workstreams from kickoff through closeout, defining milestones, deliverables and acceptance criteria that match strategic goals.
  • Design and run portfolio governance for project finance, with consistent financial controls, business case standards and performance measures that support investment choices and priorities.
  • Turn portfolio data into clear recommendations on funding, value delivered and corrective action.
  • Sequence work across linked initiatives, finding critical paths, handoffs and resource limits, and adjust plans early to protect company commitments.
  • Shape commercial strategies that weigh value, risk, cost, supplier capability and delivery needs, working with procurement, legal, finance and business teams on sourcing, contracts and vendor oversight.
  • Identify, assess and manage program risks, issues, assumptions and decisions, lead root-cause analysis, and set up practical recovery plans.
  • Escalate significant problems with the options, impacts and recommended actions laid out clearly.
  • Build working relationships with senior leaders, sponsors, functional heads and external partners, and run governance forums that drive decisions and alignment.
  • Report concisely on milestones, risks, financial results, dependencies and deliverables.
  • Apply and improve program and project methods, tools, controls and documentation standards, using lessons learned and data to make governance and delivery more transparent and efficient.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
  • 8-10 years of experience in program or project management, portfolio governance, transformation, project finance, commercial strategy or closely related work, with growing scope over time.
  • Proven record of delivering complex, cross-functional programs or workstreams in a matrixed, global or enterprise setting.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong skill in setting up work breakdown structures, SAP finance, legal agreements for equipment and services, and digital and AI tools.
  • Preferred: a master's degree or MBA.
  • Advantage: experience with planning software such as Primavera.
  • Advanced program and project management skill, covering planning, governance, dependency management and delivery controls.
  • Strong grasp of finance, commercial work, procurement and contract management.
  • Ability to analyze complex information, solve problems at root cause, and turn findings into clear next steps.
  • Excellent executive communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Working knowledge of project and portfolio methods, reporting tools and governance documentation.
