Low Latency Java Engineer (VP)

Description

The company is the company's Tech team, which builds systems for global finance. It handles about $5 trillion a day and does business in 180+ countries.

The role is a senior, VP-level position in the London-based High Performance Architectures (HPA) team. The team builds application frameworks and works with application engineers across more than 100 the company teams, with a focus on low latency eTrading platforms in Markets Technology.

The team needs a specialist in algorithmic trading systems utilities, including market data replay and back test or simulation tools. The role is senior and involves establishing and implementing new or revised application systems and programs with the Technology Team, leading applications systems analysis and programming activities.

The role is full time. It is hybrid with up to 2 days a week working from home.

Responsibilities

• Spend about 90% of your time hands-on in the Java or Rust codebase.
• Build event sourcing microservices on a low latency in-house framework, with response times between 10 and 100 microseconds.
• Lead the integration of functions to reach goals, launch new products and improve processes.
• Analyse complex business and system processes and industry standards to design and build solutions to high-level problems.
• Serve as the world-class expert in low latency Java development.
• Apply deep knowledge of the main system flows and several other areas to meet technology goals.
• Work with end users to define system function specifications and fold them into the overall design.
• Influence and negotiate with senior leaders and talk with external parties.
• Teach, mentor and support junior developers and less experienced senior Java developers.

Requirements

• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in applications development.
• In-depth experience building algorithmic trading applications, ideally in a low latency environment.
• Solid understanding of and experience with market data handling and related technologies, such as time-series databases like KDB.
• Demonstrated leadership, project management and development skills.
• Passion for writing excellent, commercial grade, mission critical Java frameworks built on event sourcing microservices.
• Complete knowledge of modern Java, the JVM, Linux, system calls and the kernel.
• Knowledge of TCP and other IP-based network protocols, including hardware accelerated kernel bypass such as Solarflare OpenOnload.
• Skill in performance assessment and targeted tuning.
• Strong design and architectural judgement.
• Experience delivering projects.
• Clear communicator with high EQ.
• Occasionally produce clear diagrams and model key aspects in UML sequence diagrams.
• Skill in building relationships and consensus.
• Background in C++.

Conditions

Business casual workplace with a hybrid model, up to 2 days working at home per week.

Full time contract.
