The company puts energy, broadband, mobile and insurance in one place, with a single bill covering all of them. Over 95% of customers take at least one energy service.
The company plans to double in size, helping more people cut wasted time and money.
Teams are small and fully autonomous, and they own their products. You will join the Technology & Product function within Engineering and co-lead a squad with a Product Manager. You will work alongside UX and Data colleagues, give the team clear direction, and take its views to senior leaders. You will also act as a link between the squad and stakeholders across the business, sharing insight and context in both directions.
Responsibilities
Own the squad's technical decisions and check they fit company and technical strategy.
Know the engineering practices your team uses, spot where they can improve, and understand every technology the squad uses and how they connect.
Help define team goals and check proposed work supports them. Set priorities that best reach those goals, and push yourself and the team to meet them.
Put in place practices that keep security and service level objectives (SLOs) on track. Coordinate with your squad, and others where needed, to cover on-call across the organisation. Run regular metrics reviews to keep coverage and performance high.
With the Product Manager and team, set objectives and key results (OKRs) that match company goals. Spot risks and blockers early and work with stakeholders to resolve them. Measure team performance to improve it over time. Report progress on OKRs, key performance indicators (KPIs) and milestones to relevant stakeholders. Co-lead annual and quarterly planning for the squad.
Make sure the squad has the technical skills to deliver, by building them in people or hiring. Onboard, train, develop and coach your reports so they grow in their careers. Take part in performance calibration and promotion reviews for the squad.
Understand and explain company, department and pillar strategy and goals to the squad. Work with stakeholders across the business to give their teams insight and context.
Teach the company culture, build a healthy team dynamic, and help resolve interpersonal conflicts. Gather, share and act on feedback. Pass company and department changes on to the squad. With support from your manager, take the team's views to senior leadership. Work closely with cross-functional colleagues such as UX and Data. Keep team spending, both OpEx and CapEx, within budget.
