Lead Software Engineer

Description

The role is a lead software engineer position that sets the technical direction for a focused product or platform area. You will solve hard engineering problems, guide others through code, design and architecture, and raise standards across the team and wider organisation. It combines hands-on delivery with technical leadership, mentoring, and shaping how resilient and maintainable the systems are over the long term.

The company is a global financial markets infrastructure and data provider with around 25,000 people across 65 countries. The role is at Manager career stage.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy applications across every stage of the software lifecycle, with attention to performance, security and scale.
• Architect and evolve distributed cloud systems, focusing on resilience, observability and efficient operations.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that deliver automated, high-quality releases.
• Contribute to API design, integration patterns and service-to-service communication.
• Use modern infrastructure tooling, including Azure, containers, dev containers and IaC, to make deployments fast and reliable.
• Apply Data Lake, Change Data Feed, AKS and Microsoft Fabric expertise to guide solution architecture and delivery.
• Support engineers through code reviews, design walkthroughs and architecture discussions.
• Improve engineering quality by promoting best practices, increasing reusability and cutting duplication across the platform.

Requirements

• Proven experience designing and implementing complex distributed systems at scale.
• Strong programming skills, comfortable with both object-oriented and functional patterns.
• Good understanding of relational databases.
• Hands-on experience with SQL, Spark SQL and core data engineering patterns.
• Strong grasp of system design, integration patterns and secure communication between services.
• Able to apply domain knowledge to guide team-level technical decisions, improve architecture and create consistency.
• Own delivery of critical platform capabilities and give clear technical direction.
• Guide and mentor peers in coding quality, architectural thinking and engineering practice.
• Influence decisions through hands-on work rather than seniority.
• Build an environment of collaboration, learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Design with real customer use in mind. Take ownership of operational issues, respond quickly to incidents, and use data and feedback to improve reliability.
• Advocate for secure, safe delivery across software, infrastructure and platform layers. Examine trade-offs, clear blockers, and build resilience in from the start.
• Use data, metrics and experiments to test assumptions and shape design choices. Encourage data-driven decisions within the team.
• Champion new engineering methods, challenge outdated practices and lead change across teams. Keep developing your own craft and the team's capabilities through coaching, feedback and technical guidance.
• Communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences, explaining design decisions so the team shares an understanding that speeds delivery.

Conditions

The anticipated annual gross base salary is 265,000 zł to 419,000 zł. Ranges may vary by location. The role is also eligible for the annual bonus plan, with the target percentage set by role level and career stage. Individual pay reflects job-related knowledge, skills and equivalent experience.
