Description

Join the Billing team in Amsterdam as a Senior Software Engineer, Billing & Monetization.

The company is a high-growth scale-up building AI tools for audit and finance professionals.

The team owns how customers sign up, what they are entitled to, and how AI usage becomes revenue, from first sign-up to renewal.

As the company moves from seats to usage and credits for its agentic products, these systems must be fast, accurate and trustworthy.

The role is hands-on and suits an engineer who values correctness as much as speed and wants to see the commercial effect of their code.

AI in audit has to earn trust. Outputs must be explainable and traceable to their source, since a plausible answer is not enough.

The new agentic platform runs AI agents in the cloud across hundreds of documents at once, reasoning across PDF, Word and Excel with a full audit trail.

More than 600,000 professionals in over 3,000 organizations across 175 countries use the product, including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and all Big Four audit firms.

In 2025 the platform delivered more than $1.4 billion in productivity savings for customers.

The company raised a $100 million Series B led by Index Ventures at a $1 billion valuation and is a member of 1% for the Planet.

Interview process: recruitment screen (30 minutes, online), hiring manager interview (30 minutes, online), live coding interview (75 minutes, online), system design interview (60 minutes, on-site), final interview (30 minutes, online).

Responsibilities

  • Build real-time usage metering and credit consumption for the agentic products, accurate to each individual agent run.
  • Design pricing and rating logic for seats, usage, credits and enterprise contract terms that can be extended without rewriting for each new plan.
  • Connect billing, payment and finance systems such as Stripe, CRM and ERP, and keep them reconciled.
  • Build the entitlements service that determines what each user and tenant can do, applied consistently in the Excel add-in and the agentic platform.
  • Own the onboarding flow from sign-up through trials, provisioning, SSO and SCIM, to the first-run experience.
  • Track activation and conversion, and work with Product and Design to reduce friction.
  • Build idempotent, auditable, observable and secure systems, where correctness is not optional.
  • Take ownership from design to production on the Python stack on Azure, through to the web and add-in front ends, spotting problems early and setting the team's technical direction on your own initiative.
  • Work with Product, Finance, Sales and Customer Success to turn pricing, packaging and licensing decisions into solid implementations, using data and empathy.
  • Raise the standard through code reviews and mentoring, giving clear, balanced feedback and welcoming the same in return.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in software engineering, including strong production backend work, ideally in Python.
  • Hands-on experience building billing, metering, licensing or entitlement systems in production.
  • Background in data-driven web APIs and distributed systems on a major cloud platform.
  • Strong grasp of financial correctness: idempotency, consistency, reconciliation and audit trails.
  • Firm grounding in architecture, system design and data modelling.
  • A product mindset: you care about activation, conversion and revenue as much as uptime.
  • Good judgment when things are unclear: you balance speed and accuracy, stay calm when plans change and reprioritise without being asked.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted engineering; the team uses Claude Code.
  • Clear communication, with the ability to team up with Finance and commercial staff to pin down what correct means.
  • Nice to have: usage- or credit-based billing in production, including AI token metering and cost attribution.
  • Nice to have: billing and payment platforms such as Stripe, CRM such as Salesforce, and ERP integrations.
  • Nice to have: identity and provisioning experience with SSO, SCIM and multi-tenant account models.
  • Nice to have: product-led growth experience, such as self-serve sign-up, trials and in-product upgrades.
  • Nice to have: revenue recognition, invoicing and tax basics.
  • Nice to have: event streaming and high-volume data pipelines.
  • Nice to have: scale-up experience, ideally in SaaS, fintech or audit tech.
