Description

The company builds automation solutions and needs a senior technical lead to set the direction of its embedded Linux platforms, which run those solutions.

You would own the architecture, implementation and evolution of these platforms, including decisions on product strategy and long-term roadmap.

You will work with hardware, firmware, software and product teams to balance near-term needs against the long-term vision, and make sure the platforms meet performance, reliability and lifecycle targets.

The team works across multiple product lines and offers several career paths, with ongoing investment in skills, leadership and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and oversight of embedded Linux software across several product lines.
  • Set the platform strategy for Yocto builds, kernel configuration, driver architecture and real-time behaviour.
  • Lead development, debugging and optimisation of Linux kernel modules, device drivers and application code.
  • Design and guide the build of real-time, performance-critical C/C++ applications.
  • Resolve complex problems that span hardware, kernel, bootloaders and user space.
  • Keep the platform maintainable, secure and scalable over the long term.
  • Mentor embedded engineers and raise the technical standard across the organisation.
  • Work with hardware, test, manufacturing and product management to make the system succeed.
  • Oversee BSP integration and validation of platform components.
  • Write architecture documentation, design guidelines and engineering standards.
  • Represent embedded engineering in design reviews, technical governance and roadmap planning.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in embedded Linux development.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer or electrical engineering, computer science, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Yocto and building custom Linux distributions.
  • Experience debugging and profiling with tools such as Valgrind, perf or oprofile.
  • Deep understanding of Linux kernel internals, device drivers and low-level system debugging.
  • Advanced C/C++ skills for embedded and real-time work.
  • Understanding of low-latency and deterministic design, such as PREEMPT_RT.
  • A proven record of technical leadership.
  • Comfort working across the boundary between hardware and software.
  • Strong systems thinking, structured problem solving and awareness of the product lifecycle.
  • Optional: experience in industrial automation or mission-critical environments (listed as a plus).

Conditions

The role involves a fast-paced, dynamic setting that suits people who like to develop themselves and their work.

Apply through the company's online recruitment portal.

Benefits

  • A generous wage and benefits package, including a company-funded registered pension plan.
  • Opportunities for continuous skills development, leadership growth and career progression across many paths.
