Java Developer, Equities Trading, Vice President

Description

The company is running a multi-year rebuild of its Equities technology, covering execution, prime, clearing and cross-product margining. The goal is a faster, more resilient and more automated global platform.

You will join the Equities Electronic Trading team as a Vice President. The role centres on building and improving the core low-latency execution platform, with a main focus on the Smart Order Router, using modern high-performance Java and microservices.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and business and product partners to define and deliver the next generation of Equities technology.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and tuning of high-performance, low-latency microservices and applications, mainly the Smart Order Router.
• Build and refine complex routing logic, venue analysis models and performance improvements that support best execution and system stability.
• Lead technical design discussions and run thorough code reviews to keep quality, performance and architecture at a high standard.
• Work with product development, quantitative researchers and other technology teams to ship new trading features and upgrade existing systems.
• Improve testing frameworks, development tools and deployment processes for the low-latency, high-throughput environment.
• Solve hard technical problems by analysing business requirements, system processes and industry practice.
• Apply deep knowledge of system architecture, data flow and development standards across coding, testing, debugging and implementation.
• Build and maintain reliable tooling for trading platform monitoring, trade reconciliation and application recovery.
• Weigh risk in business decisions with care for the firm's reputation and its clients and assets. Follow laws, rules and policy, use sound ethical judgment, and escalate and report control issues openly.

Requirements

• Hands-on software development experience on high-performance, low-latency systems (required).
• Expert knowledge of Core Java, including JVM internals, concurrency, garbage collection and memory management in a low-latency setting.
• Proven experience designing and building automated trading systems, ideally Smart Order Routers in Equities or a similar financial domain (preferred).
• Solid understanding of financial market protocols such as FIX, and practical work with order and market data.
• Experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Demonstrable use of modern testing frameworks, Agile methods and CI/CD processes.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain and understand complex technical and business topics.
• Experience with messaging and data grid technologies such as Solace, AMPS or Chronicle, and infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree or university degree.

Full-time role.

Based in the primary location listed, with a salary range of $120,800.00 to $170,800.00.
