Lead Java Developer

Description

The company runs a central repository and distribution platform for corporate action events. It pulls announcements and notifications from many vendors and feeds them into business operations. The platform sits within master reference data in the enterprise data organization, and the team is modernizing and running the full lifecycle of these events across the enterprise.

This is a senior technical role that leads the design, build and rollout of new or changed application systems. You will work with technology and product colleagues and oversee engineering work covering software, hardware and network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Build complex software with Java/J2EE, Spring Boot and RESTful web services.
• Design, build and maintain sturdy microservices that follow sound architecture practice.
• Write core Java that uses multi-threading and the Collections framework.
• Use the Spring Framework to structure application code.
• Write and tune SQL queries.
• Apply solid software engineering practice, object-oriented principles and design patterns.
• Help build and improve CI/CD pipelines.
• Manage source code in Git or Bitbucket.
• Keep code clean and check quality with tools such as Sonar.
• Write unit, integration and functional tests that prove the solution works.
• Work through hard technical problems efficiently.
• Lead, coach and manage a group of application developers, encouraging high standards, teamwork and steady improvement.

Requirements

• Substantial hands-on software engineering experience in large enterprise environments, with a record of delivering reliable, high-performance applications.
• Strong working knowledge of Java/J2EE, Spring Boot and RESTful web services using XML and JSON.
• Proven experience with microservices architecture.
• Hands-on skill in core Java, multi-threading, the Collections framework and the Spring Framework.
• Practical experience building event-driven systems on Apache Kafka, covering topic configuration, producer and consumer APIs and stream processing.
• Solid grasp of software engineering practice, OOP, design patterns and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Git for source control.
• Understanding of clean code and of code quality measurement with tools such as Sonar.
• Proven ability to write unit, integration and functional tests.
• A solution-focused approach: you can analyse complex problems, devise strategies and lead their delivery.
• Clear written and spoken communication.
• Experience with AI tools such as Devin or Copilot.
• Understanding of cloud-native development principles.
• Experience with container orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Working knowledge of Jira for tracking tasks, managing backlogs and taking part in sprints.

Conditions

Full-time position.

Hybrid working: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
