Description

The company runs a large enterprise data center and colocation portfolio, and this product manager role keeps its performance, cost, capacity and long-term strategy on track.

You will work with infrastructure engineering, operations, finance, real estate, strategic sourcing and outside service providers to help the team decide on capacity, spending, investments, vendors and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as product owner for the data center lifecycle, covering cost, features, service levels, capacity, investment and performance.
  • Work with infrastructure engineering, operations, finance, real estate and strategic sourcing on shared decisions.
  • Write features and user stories in an Agile setting, and support governance and KPI reporting.
  • Match forecast business demand to available data center capacity, and flag when new capacity or expansion will be needed.
  • Help shape the wider data center strategy and improve the tools and data used to track capacity and demand.
  • Track cost drivers across the portfolio, including facility spend and annual rate setting, and find ways to lower cost.
  • Own budgets for monthly operating and business-as-usual costs, and contribute to annual planning.
  • Check invoices for accuracy, and handle purchase orders and approvals.
  • Support colocation service orders and vendor renewals, and take part in strategic sourcing governance on contracts, SLA performance, risk and business needs.
  • Work with consultants, distributors, low voltage contractors, manufacturers, e-waste providers and other partners.
  • Watch lease expirations and assess whether sites should be renewed, expanded or migrated, comparing annual price increases and expansion costs against negotiated rates.
  • Support decisions on the long-term data center footprint.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects, owning schedule, budget, delivery and risk.
  • Report KPIs, risks, issues and recommendations to senior management.
  • Join weekly reviews of change tickets affecting enterprise data centers, colocation facilities and critical campus environments.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or graduate degree, with a strong academic background such as in computer science or engineering.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Deep expertise in your discipline and the frameworks, tools, processes and procedures it uses, plus an understanding of organizational issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of the company's applications, systems, networks, design work, best practices, business and standards, and the ability to act in a governance role.
  • Work as a key contributor in a complex, critical environment, sometimes leading teams or projects and sharing your expertise.
  • Apply deep skills and wide business knowledge to complex problems and non-standard situations.
  • Preferred: you have worked in the operation of data centers, colocation sites, critical facilities or infrastructure, or in data center services.
  • Preferred: product management or ownership, infrastructure service management, or a comparable role.
  • Preferred: a solid understanding of capacity planning, forecasting, cost management and service delivery in data centers.
  • Preferred: you have managed relationships with colocation firms, facility partners, contractors, consultants, equipment makers and infrastructure suppliers.
  • Preferred: knowledge of how leases, contracts and SLAs work, plus vendor renewals, PO processing, invoicing and budgeting.
  • Preferred: Agile experience that includes writing features and stories.
  • Preferred: familiarity with change management for critical infrastructure.
  • Preferred: skill at turning operational and financial data into clear recommendations.
  • Preferred: you have briefed senior leaders on service results, risk, spending and how much capacity is needed.
  • Preferred: you collaborate well with sourcing, finance, operations, engineering, real estate and outside providers.
  • Preferred: you can run many initiatives at once and weigh spend, capacity and operational risk against demand.
