The role sits in the Environment & Energy SH&E team, which works nationally, so the post can be based at any of the company's main offices in Manchester, Basingstoke, Glasgow, Cambridge or Bristol.

You will work alongside the GGP CDM Lead to build positive engagement, give support, advice and guidance, and spread CDM knowledge across projects while promoting good practice and the company's commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.

You will provide Principal Designer services on some of the largest energy infrastructure projects in the UK, working with internal teams and clients.

The company is a global infrastructure consulting firm with over 50,000 staff across planning, design, engineering, programme and construction management. Its Professional Services business reported revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025, and it is a Fortune 500 firm.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a visible champion for health, wellbeing, safety and the environment, encouraging continuous improvement and a mature safety culture in line with company policies, procedures and SH&E strategies.
  • Lead the pre-construction phase on projects, identify and reduce risk, improve communication and cooperation, and manage the handover from design to construction, including preparing health and safety files.
  • Make sure every task, activity and deliverable in your scope adds value and meets a high standard, and keep looking for ways to improve methods, processes and results.
  • Advise energy project staff and clients on CDM, helping them meet their own statutory duties and your duties, and deal with legal discrepancies promptly and professionally.
  • Work with colleagues and managers as one cohesive team, showing respect, support and cooperation to reach shared goals.
  • Encourage compliance with procedures and process requirements within your area of work to strengthen the safety culture.
  • Help promote the company's Safety for Life, Culture of Caring and Life Preserving Principles to keep the workplace safe, healthy and secure.

Requirements

  • A design or engineering degree.
  • Experience on overhead line and HV projects.
  • Membership of the Association of Project Safety.
  • A NEBOSH National or General Certificate, or an equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Experience delivering the Principal Designer role under CDM on energy projects, carrying out your duties efficiently and effectively.
  • Candidates who meet some of these requirements, or who have transferable skills that would benefit the team, are encouraged to apply.

Conditions

Hybrid working is offered, so you can split your time between a company office, a remote location and client sites.

You must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at a company office as a condition of employment.
