Description

The company is turning its AI-first operating model into practical change across its investment systems. It has more than 9,000 associates in over 30 offices.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role in the AI Engineering group. You will lead teams working on smart automation, AI-supported design, agent-based delivery and measurable process gains, reporting to the AI Engineering Director.

You will lead managers, engineers, automation specialists and partner teams through unclear problems while keeping security, privacy, compliance and responsible AI controls in place.

Responsibilities

  • Lead AI engineering teams that design, build and scale AI-enabled business solutions for investment systems.
  • Turn target operating model priorities into delivery plans, team backlogs, MVP scopes, operating rhythms and measurable outcomes.
  • Work with business and technology stakeholders to find workflow pain points, automation candidates, places to add agents and data dependencies.
  • Partner with product, engineering, operations, data, architecture, cybersecurity, risk and compliance teams to pick high-value opportunities, ship manageable MVPs and scale human-plus-agent capability.
  • Deliver automation and human-plus-agent patterns that shorten cycle time, raise straight-through processing, improve exception handling, resiliency and user experience.
  • Guide engineers on generative AI, agentic AI, orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, observability, guardrails and reusable delivery patterns.
  • Build responsible AI practices, human-in-the-loop controls, auditability, traceability, secure access, data controls and operational guardrails into delivery from the start.
  • Develop managers, senior engineers, workflow analysts, automation specialists and domain-savvy technologists, and strengthen one-team culture across Charlotte and global hubs.
  • Report progress, risks, dependencies and business value clearly to the AI Engineering Director, peer leaders, product partners and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of enterprise technology experience, with 3+ years leading teams or programs in AI engineering, process transformation, data engineering, platform engineering, testing or investment systems technology.
  • 5+ years of people leadership, coaching and leading high-performing engineering teams, including engineers, managers, automation specialists, workflow analysts and cross-functional delivery teams.
  • Experience delivering AI-enabled workflow solutions, business process modernization or human-plus-agent operating models in a complex enterprise.
  • Strong grasp of investment systems, financial services workflows, regulated processes or comparable mission-critical enterprise domains.
  • Working knowledge of generative AI, agentic AI, orchestration, RAG, prompt patterns, evaluations, observability, guardrails, automation platforms, APIs and modern engineering practices.
  • Experience working with data, platform, architecture, cybersecurity, risk, legal, compliance, business operations and product teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
  • Proven ability to turn unclear business needs into practical MVPs, execution plans, team priorities, measurable outcomes and adoption plans.
  • Clear communication with senior stakeholders, while staying close to execution detail, risks, dependencies and delivery health.
  • Demonstrated ownership of an application and solution portfolio, including its roadmap, stability, lifecycle management and continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering, information systems, business technology or a related field.
  • Preferred: an advanced degree, or a relevant cloud, AI, automation, data, quality or security certification.
