Description

The company makes a compact, solid-state radar that steers its beam electronically and works in all weather. Its radars serve autonomous vehicles, uncrewed aircraft and drones, and security for borders, critical infrastructure and smart cities.

The company combines patented metamaterial technology with advanced software to deliver high performance at commercial price points.

Customers come from automotive, transportation, critical infrastructure protection, border security, smart cities, uncrewed aircraft systems, and airspace management, including urban air mobility (UTM).

The company is growing and is looking for a Technical Writer to join the team.

Responsibilities

  • You plan, write, validate, publish, translate and maintain the documentation for assigned radar hardware products over their whole life.
  • You write user guides, quick-start guides, installation and configuration procedures, system integration guides, and operation and troubleshooting content, with the emphasis on hardware components and assemblies.
  • You work with systems, hardware, software, test and QA, product, support, program management, manufacturing or operations, and training colleagues at every stage of the product lifecycle.
  • You build modular topic-based content in DITA XML or another approved structured format, using metadata, conditional content and reuse.
  • You work through Git-based docs-as-code processes, including branches, commits, pull requests, peer review, issue tracking, change traceability, and automated builds and publishing.
  • You manage several documentation projects on your own, flag risks early, and adjust plans when product priorities shift.

Requirements

  • You have at least six years of professional technical-writing experience, including substantial work on complex hardware and software products or systems.
  • You bring a portfolio or work samples showing clear, task-focused documentation for technical products. Samples on installation, operation, maintenance, integration or troubleshooting are especially relevant.
  • You learn by using the product yourself and check documentation against hardware, software or realistic test environments.
  • You have worked with DITA XML or another topic-based structured authoring method, including content reuse, metadata, conditional publishing and output in several formats.
  • You have hands-on experience with docs-as-code workflows and Git, including repositories, branches, commits, pull or merge requests, peer review and issue tracking.
  • You can read complex engineering source material and turn it into content that both technical and non-technical readers can understand and act on.
  • You have strong project management skills and attention to detail, and you can set your own priorities across several deliverables when conditions change.
  • You hold a bachelor's degree in technical communication, engineering, computer science, English, communications or a related field, or you have equivalent practical experience.
  • Desired: experience documenting radar, aerospace, defense, government, industrial, embedded, electronic or other mission-critical systems.
  • Desired: proficiency in Oxygen XML Editor and experience with a component content management system (CCMS), DITA Open Toolkit, XSLT, CSS or related publishing technologies.
  • Desired: familiarity with Agile product development, engineering change control, release management and documentation traceability.
  • Desired: experience creating technical diagrams, annotated product images or other visual explanations from engineering source material.

Conditions

The role is exempt.

The expected annual salary range is $124,733 to $187,048 USD.

Compensation and benefits are offered to full-time employees based in the US.

Because the technology is export controlled by the U.S. Government, the company must check whether each applicant may handle export-controlled information or needs government authorization. The application will ask whether you are a U.S. citizen, a green card holder, or have asylum or refugee status in the U.S.

Benefits

  • Restricted stock units (RSUs).
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance premiums fully paid for you, with a choice of PPO or HDHP/HSA.

  • Mental health coverage through Springhealth and Talkspace (Premera).
  • Travel assistance insurance, company-paid life insurance, and company-paid short- and long-term disability cover.
