Tech Lead

Description

The company is a New Zealand-born SaaS business with offices in Auckland and the United States. Its apps, church management software and digital giving tools help churches and charities stay connected with their communities.

This is a hands-on technical lead role for someone who wants to keep building software while guiding a team. An Engineering Manager handles formal people management, so you focus on engineering direction, delivery support and growing your engineers.

You will lead a team of 5 to 8 engineers who build and ship meaningful features. The work sits where customer needs meet engineering, turning ideas into reliable, well-designed software that makes real user experiences better.

The team values respect, innovation, blameless postmortems and shared learning sessions. You will be heard and your knowledge valued.

You do not need every tool on day one. Solid engineering fundamentals and the ability to reason about systems count for more than knowing specific technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver robust features in C and.NET.
• Set technical direction and architecture for your team.
• Work with Product Managers and Engineering Managers to set delivery priorities.
• Review code and mentor engineers to raise code quality.
• Spot risks early and help the team work through them.
• Promote good practice in design, testing and deployment.
• Use AI-first development practices and autonomous tools to solve hard problems and improve velocity.
• Guide engineers through complex feature work.
• Explain technical options and their trade-offs clearly.
• Balance delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
• Help the team stay steady when requirements are unclear.
• Stay hands-on where it counts.

Requirements

• Strong engineering craft and the ability to bring others along.
• Experience with C, ASP.NET or.NET Core.
• Familiarity with some of: NodeJS services, React frontends, Entity Framework or other ORMs, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, REST APIs, GraphQL, RabbitMQ, SQS, Kinesis, microservices, OTel, AWS, and AI services built on Claude, Bedrock or Langfuse.
• Ability to reason about distributed systems and design them well.
• A habit of helping others grow and leading by example.
