Description

The aeronautics systems group of the company is hiring an operations analysis engineer for modeling and simulation work in Rancho Bernardo, CA, supporting the systems engineering organization.

Your analysis feeds investment decisions made by senior leadership and customer program offices.

The discipline overlaps with systems, aerospace and software engineering, so you will often work across functions.

You will join a small cross-functional team that builds physics-based models, dynamic scenarios, focused vignette threads and operations analyses. The work covers friendly and adversary systems on ground, maritime, air and space domains.

The results shape clean-sheet requirements, refine current program requirements and inform future technology and capability choices.

Responsibilities

  • Work with air vehicle and subsystem engineers and with program and customer leadership to recommend candidate designs.
  • Write concepts of operation (CONOPs) and tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) at system, mission and campaign levels.
  • Build and integrate system simulation frameworks, performance models, algorithms, threat models and command and control models.
  • Conduct operational and mission effectiveness analysis.
  • Turn friendly and adversary tactics into mission-level models, such as AFSIM.
  • Model operating environments, run computer-based trade studies and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Carry out mission engineering so that intended operational capabilities match delivered system performance.
  • Weigh the performance of new systems and architectures against cost and mission needs.
  • Create mission-relevant scenarios and assess how existing and emerging systems perform in realistic operating environments.
  • Gather input from stakeholders, synthesize data and brief results to leaders at every level of the organization.
  • Write software that models system behavior in real-time and constructive simulations.
  • Build and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus at least 2 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a master's degree in a STEM field plus at least some relevant military, professional or academic experience.
  • Active US Government Secret clearance or higher, with a background investigation completed in the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Able to get and keep a US Government Top Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) access within a timeframe the business sets.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C++ or Java, or with software-based trade studies.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with simulation frameworks such as AFSIM, Suppressor or STK.
  • Preferred: Ability to model operating environments and run operations analysis and mission effectiveness trade studies.
  • Preferred: Ability to build advanced data analysis and visualization toolsets.
  • Preferred: Proposal development, writing or execution experience.
  • Preferred: Operational military background as aircrew (fighter, bomber, RPA pilot or helicopter pilot), electronic warfare or weapons systems officer, air battle manager, naval flight officer, airborne tactical officer, or intelligence or communications officer.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of tools built for system-of-systems modeling, such as AFSIM, Suppressor or Brawler.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AGILE, MBSE and/or system architecture frameworks.
  • Preferred: Project management skills and clear communication.
  • Preferred: Experience with version control tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub or GitLab.
  • Preferred: Good at working with others and leading people.
  • Preferred: Strong ability to present and brief technical information to leaders at every level and to the US Government.
  • Preferred: Current Top Secret clearance.
