You will lead design, build and integration work on a software modernization effort, guide project teams, review technical direction, and delegate tasks. You will also help the engineering group set technology roadmaps, follow best practices and try new approaches.

Day to day, you will work with internal integrated product teams, government staff, program managers and outside stakeholders to shape software architecture and build coding solutions that meet company standards and program requirements. You will also coach, mentor and train the software staff on the program.

Responsibilities

  • Present software architecture decisions to the program manager, chief engineer, customer, sponsor and other stakeholder technical leads.
  • Analyze customer and system requirements, then develop architectural approaches and detailed specifications for subsystems and software products.
  • Align software plans and schedules with program expectations, and log risks with their possible impact and mitigation in the program risk management system.
  • Review team members' software designs and code for conformance to program requirements and the architecture vision.
  • Own software deliveries and milestones, keeping quality high at every step.
  • Coach junior engineers on the company's software development practices.
  • Spot and raise chances to improve efficiency or the technical quality of the product.
  • Act as subject matter expert on software domains, system-specific issues, processes and quality conformance of software end items.
  • Take projects from start to finish with little direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent education.
  • 10+ years designing and developing software in Python, C/C++, C and/or Java.
  • 5+ years developing Linux and/or real-time operating system (RTOS) software.
  • 5+ years leading software teams or projects.
  • 5+ years working in domains, products and settings where software shapes architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs and integration/test approaches.
  • 1+ years working with network architectures and applications that communicate over TCP/UDP networks.
  • Teamwork and coordination skills, with the ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations.
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance and U.S. citizenship. A clearance active within the past 24 months counts as active.
  • Preferred: a Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science or computer science with 14+ years of related work experience; or a bachelor's degree with 18+ years of directly related work experience; or 22+ years of related, relevant experience.
  • Preferred: experience with continuous software upgrades and technology refreshes as components reach end of life (EOL).
  • Preferred: experience with the ROS2 middleware framework.
  • Preferred: experience with continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) practices.
  • Preferred: experience with Docker and Kubernetes Container Service (KCS).
  • Preferred: experience with DevOps toolchains and team collaboration tools such as GitLab, JIRA, Jenkins and/or Artifactory.
  • Preferred: knowledge of deriving and allocating system, subsystem and software requirements, and showing traceability through the product lifecycle.
