Description

The company runs GeForce NOW, a cloud gaming service that runs on the company GPUs and streams games to a Mac, a PC, or a mobile device at high definition and low latency. The same low-latency streaming work now extends to augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

The team is building the next generation of applications with media and data streaming. You will work with a group of experienced, driven software engineers. The role calls for strong C++ and a real interest in streaming technology, including a good grasp of streaming protocols and a habit of solving hard problems with new approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, tune, and debug C++ software for ultra low-latency streaming systems.
  • Implement WebRTC and related real-time protocols and congestion-control algorithms from scratch, working straight from the specifications.
  • Find gaps in existing standards and close them through protocol design, reference implementations, and contributions to IETF Internet-Drafts and RFCs.
  • Define and implement KPIs for network quality, streaming quality, and user experience.
  • Integrate streaming software with platform services, connectivity layers, and, where relevant, automotive system components.

Requirements

  • Deep working knowledge of WebRTC architecture and internals.
  • Hands-on experience with the transport, security, and media path: ICE, STUN/TURN, DTLS-SRTP, SCTP data channels, and RTP/RTCP, including the feedback loop that controls pacing and bandwidth estimation.
  • 8+ years developing, optimizing, and debugging C++ software, plus a master's degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of operating systems, multithreading, memory management, networking, and systems programming.
  • Ability to debug complex problems that span software, OS, media pipelines, platform, and hardware.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a self-motivated way of working.
  • Nice to have: contributions to open-source real-time media projects such as libwebrtc, Pion, GStreamer, or libvpx/libaom, or to IETF/W3C standards work.
  • Nice to have: experience with video codecs and formats such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, color spaces, or hardware-accelerated encode and decode.
  • Nice to have: background with QNX, QNX Safety, Linux, or embedded operating systems for safety-critical platforms.
  • Nice to have: experience with automotive software, telematics, connected vehicle platforms, or car connectivity.
