Description

You will be a senior engineer on the team that builds the backend between the company's mobile apps and its ownership services, along with the back-office integrations those services rely on.

The work centres on resilient, secure microservices in Java and Spring Boot, and on improving API design, cloud operations, deployment automation and monitoring.

The team is looking for deep microservices experience, hands-on Azure work, and a practical view of how AI tools can help engineers ship faster and understand production systems.

Your work will make the platform more reliable, shorten delivery time and make it simpler for mobile apps to connect to the company's enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable microservices, REST and GraphQL APIs, and event-driven integrations in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Create secure, reliable and fast backend services for mobile apps and internal workflows.
  • Deploy and run services on Azure using AKS, API Management, Functions, Cosmos DB, SQL Database and related managed services.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and Git, covering deployment automation, consistent environments and release control.
  • Improve observability with metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts and health checks in Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki and Azure Monitor.
  • Set, track and raise service reliability using SLOs, SLAs and health indicators tied to customer and business needs.
  • Apply AI-enabled practices to improve developer output, code quality, incident triage, anomaly detection and capacity planning.
  • Practise test-driven development and write solid unit, integration and functional tests.
  • Work with product, architecture, security and other engineering teams on solutions that meet business and customer needs.
  • Coach engineers on microservice design, API standards, testing, observability and DevOps.
  • Write and maintain architecture documents, runbooks, API documentation and engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience.
  • Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, with solid hands-on Java and Spring Boot work.
  • Have designed and built microservices and RESTful APIs in distributed systems.
  • Have worked with cloud platforms, ideally Azure, including containerised deployments and managed services.
  • Understand DevOps principles, CI/CD, infrastructure-aware development and automated deployment.
  • Have practised TDD and used test frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
  • Have strong experience with SQL databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Communicate and collaborate well, and solve problems across teams.
  • Preferred: experience with GraphQL, WebSockets and event-driven or asynchronous architecture patterns.
  • Preferred: experience with NoSQL technologies such as Cosmos DB or Cassandra.
  • Preferred: hands-on work with Azure services such as AKS, API Management, Functions, Cosmos DB, SQL Database, Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
  • Preferred: exposure to Google Cloud Platform.
  • Preferred: experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, OpenTelemetry or similar platforms.
  • Preferred: practical Docker and Kubernetes work, release automation and production support in cloud-native environments.
  • Preferred: experience using AI-assisted development tools and AI-driven operations for log analysis, incident response, anomaly detection or engineering productivity.
  • Preferred: knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, secrets management and API gateway patterns.
  • Preferred: familiarity with mobile backend workflows, enterprise integration patterns and ownership experience platforms.
  • Preferred: experience in Agile product teams and mentoring engineers through design reviews, code reviews and delivery.
  • Preferred: experience developing microservices with NodeJS, TypeScript, JavaScript and/or Go.
