Description

The company's Vehicle Motion Controls and Estimation (VMCC) platform design team builds reusable motion control and estimation solutions for upcoming vehicle platforms.

The role leads technical work in one of two domains, depending on the position: steering controls, or suspension and vertical motion controls.

Steering roles cover electric power steering (EPS), steer-by-wire and active rear steering. Suspension roles cover semi-active and active suspension along with vertical vehicle motion.

You own your domain while helping build a scalable platform that handles many vehicle setups, actuator types, operating modes and driver modes.

The ideal candidate comes from a leading OEM or Tier 1 supplier and can carry work from vehicle dynamics analysis through architecture and algorithms into production software, calibration and vehicle validation.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end controls design for your domain, whether steering or suspension and vertical motion.
  • Build reusable control and estimation algorithms that turn vehicle-level goals into actuator commands, respecting system limits, operating modes and degraded operation.
  • For steering roles, design controls for EPS, steer-by-wire and active rear steering covering steering response, driver feedback, state and trajectory tracking, disturbance rejection, mode switching, and fault-tolerant or degraded operation.
  • For suspension roles, design controls for adaptive and active suspension that target ride, handling, body motion, wheel motion, roll, pitch and heave.
  • Define platform interfaces, control ownership, actuator coordination, arbitration and technology-specific extensions that work across vehicle configurations.
  • Develop state estimators, observers, sensor processing and fusion, system identification and parameter estimation that keep control robust.
  • Work with braking, propulsion, rear steering and other chassis teams to deliver coherent vehicle motion behavior.
  • Turn ride, handling, stability, comfort and controllability goals into control requirements, metrics, algorithms and calibration plans.
  • Apply model-based development, vehicle dynamics simulation, HIL, DiL and in-vehicle testing to design, calibrate, verify and validate controls.
  • Write production-grade embedded software and support requirements, interface definition, design reviews, diagnostics and software releases.
  • Lead technically, mentor engineers, solve cross-functional problems and explain design decisions to controls, software, systems, calibration, test and program teams.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in controls, robotics, aerospace, mechanical or electrical engineering, or an equivalent degree with relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to produce clear technical reports and give presentations.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license for occasional test support.
  • Preferred: experience writing and reading software and hardware requirements and interfaces, using tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA or similar.
  • Preferred: familiarity with automotive product release and specification processes.
  • Preferred: knowledge of related systems such as powertrain, driveline and CAN/LIN networks.
  • Preferred: hands-on work with advanced test setups (dSPACE HiL, DiL) and/or in-vehicle track testing.

Conditions

Hybrid role: you report to a specific location at least 3 days a week, or as often as your manager sets.

Applicants may need to complete a role-related assessment and/or a pre-employment screening before starting.

The company is committed to equal opportunity and an inclusive workplace.

Benefits

  • Relocation support is available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
  • Well-being and career benefits are described in the company's total rewards resources.
