Description

The company's Air Dominance division, part of its defense, space and security business, is hiring a Lead Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineer in Hazelwood, MO.

The team builds new capabilities for a range of military aircraft, including fighter, unmanned tanker and trainer programs, and for new proprietary air dominance programs.

The work covers design, development, integration and flight test, from early vehicle concept through in-service support.

Engineers in aerodynamics, propulsion, guidance, navigation and control, and loads and dynamics work together on these products.

Responsibilities

  • Set GNC mission requirements and keep them traceable and high quality from system level down to component level.
  • Build and refine a complex, nonlinear, six degree of freedom simulation using multidisciplinary model data such as aero, mass properties and propulsion.
  • Write, implement, integrate and test vehicle models and controllers in C, C++, FORTRAN, Python and similar languages.
  • Design flight control laws with modern linear techniques and tools to meet design and performance targets.
  • Assess and refine control law designs using advanced nonlinear analysis.
  • Validate models against test data so the simulation environment becomes more accurate.
  • Create supplementary controllers, limiters, mode logic and signal shaping that keep performance bounded across the full flight envelope.
  • Work with flight simulation and Vehicle Management Systems software engineers to bring control laws into the operational flight program.
  • Support desktop, software and real time simulations, plus hardware in the loop development and testing.
  • Plan and carry out flight testing.
  • Lead design reviews, analyses, simulations and component or system testing so products meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Train and coach other engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or a non-US equivalent directly related to the work statement.
  • 14+ years of work experience with a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent mix of work experience and technical education.
  • 5+ years of experience in guidance, navigation and control engineering.
  • Experience modeling systems in Matlab/Simulink or MatrixX.
  • Preferred: active U.S. Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Preferred: experience with simulation and system and component modeling.
  • Preferred: experience implementing algorithms in real time systems.
  • Preferred: hardware in the loop simulator (HILS) experience.
  • Preferred: prior experience supporting flight test.

Conditions

Based in Hazelwood, MO, on Shift 1 in the United States.

Not an export control position, not a safety sensitive position, and not contingent upon program award. No language requirements.

You must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, with an interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance required after start. Program access must also be obtainable, which requires U.S. citizenship only.

The employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.

Successful candidates must pass the company's conflict of interest assessment.

Post-offer applicants and employees may be tested for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, PCP and alcohol when criteria are met under company policy.

Total rewards include competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities.

Pay depends on your experience and qualifications, plus market and business considerations.

Available benefit programs vary by location, hire date and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Benefits

  • The 401(k) plan matches your contributions dollar for dollar up to 10% of eligible pay, with immediate 100% vesting.
