Description

You will lead product engineering from start to finish on large programs that span several teams.

You will work alongside product, business, architecture, infrastructure, and security leads to deliver quickly, learn from results, and expand what works.

You will own the technical direction, product architecture, and delivery from first concept through launch and later iteration, with the aim of shipping sooner and raising delivery speed.

The company is a technology firm within a global organization, serving US federal clients in defense, national security, public safety, civilian, and military health. It has 13,000+ people and was named a Glassdoor Top 100 Best Place to Work.

Responsibilities

  • Set a product-level technical vision tied to customer outcomes and client goals.
  • Define lightweight architecture guardrails, such as interfaces, patterns, and conventions, so teams can iterate quickly without losing quality.
  • Set priorities using business, user, and operational signals to deliver value sooner.
  • Build AI capabilities where they fit, with clear interfaces, guardrails, and observability so their value is reliable, safe, and measurable.
  • Turn strategy into technical roadmaps, ordering work by impact, effort, risk, and what the team stands to learn.
  • Oversee the full product lifecycle from concept through development, launch, and ongoing improvement, reducing cycle time.
  • Write product code and tests across the stack, such as Java or Python on the back end, React or Angular on the front end, and SQL or NoSQL for data.
  • Manage several product codebases, setting measurable goals for code quality, throughput, and release predictability.
  • Use AI tools for code generation, test writing, defect triage, and documentation to shorten feedback loops and raise developer output.
  • Define bounded contexts and domain-driven modules, keep concerns separated, and compose services so change stays safe.
  • Design versioned REST APIs and schemas that remain backward compatible, and protect integrations with contract tests.
  • Model data with practical relational or NoSQL schemas, enforce integrity and validation, and plan indexing and migrations.
  • Improve performance and scale using caching, pagination, batching, and concurrency controls, with performance budgets and regular profiling.
  • Design cloud native products made of modular, scalable microservices and event-driven patterns with clear REST, streaming, or batch contracts.
  • Standardize containers and orchestration so deployments are simple and repeatable.
  • Build data and streaming foundations using SQL and NoSQL models, caching layers, and Kafka or Pub/Sub for low latency and high throughput.
  • Run CI/CD with trunk-based development, automated tests, and progressive delivery such as feature flags and blue-green releases to cut feedback time and risk.
  • Set standards for clarity, reliability, performance, security, and observability, and bring DevSecOps, trunk-based development, feature flags, and AI coding tools into daily practice.
  • Act as a primary technical authority and mentor, lead design reviews, and improve documentation.
  • Give executives and cross-functional leaders short, data-driven updates on status, risks, trade-offs, and decisions.
  • Build trust through open communication and fast, measurable results.
  • Use telemetry, experiment results, and customer feedback to keep improving, and turn what the team learns into shared practice.

Requirements

  • Hold a BA or BS in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or have equivalent experience.
  • Have 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Have 8+ years of full stack development, including Java or Python on the back end, Angular or React on the front end, SQL and NoSQL data, and AWS cloud.
  • Have 5+ years developing, testing, and launching production software.
  • Have 3+ years leading product architecture and technical design.
  • Have 1+ years building AI-enabled product features or improving delivery with AI solutions.
  • Bonus points: experience in technical strategy and vision, product engineering leadership, full stack development, product architecture and system design, cloud native and microservices work, API design and contract management, data modeling and database architecture, CI/CD and modern delivery, DevSecOps and engineering excellence, AI-enabled product development, performance and scalability, engineering mentorship and technical leadership, stakeholder communication and cross-functional work, and delivery acceleration, developer productivity, and speed to market.
