The company is a specialty care platform that connects people with top specialists for surgery, cancer care, infusions and other treatment, and it gives members a dedicated care team of Care Advocates and nurses for their whole care journey.
The company serves more than 6 million members nationwide for some of the largest employers in the country, and it cuts costs for those employers while keeping care quality high.
The Architecture team is growing and is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to set technical direction, raise engineering standards, and help scale a cloud-native healthcare platform used by patients, care advocates, and enterprise clients.
This role is strategic and highly visible. It suits someone who can handle ambiguity, step back to see the whole system, and still write code to help teams move forward.
Location: hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the Dallas, TX office.
Responsibilities
Work as a senior architecture contributor and technical leader across key domains, partnering with several pods to deliver coherent, scalable solutions.
Lead modularization and decoupling of the platform to pay down technical debt, improve maintainability, and give teams ownership of their components.
Design and architect secure, resilient, high-performance services on modern cloud-native technology, with Azure preferred.
Work with engineering, product, and compliance to keep architecture aligned with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and the product roadmap.
Mentor and guide engineers, formally and informally, on architecture practice, career growth, and system-level thinking.
Set code quality, testability, and design standards through deep technical reviews and working reference examples.
Assess frameworks, tools, and integration approaches, including Salesforce and other CRM platforms, for scale and interoperability.
Build and evolve the company's architecture guidelines, reference implementations, and technical documentation, with focus on innovation, AI integration, and long-term maintainability.
Lead technical discovery and prototyping for complex integrations and data flows, including FHIR, HL7, and Kafka work.
Guide technical direction and delivery on multi-team projects so they meet high standards for reliability, security, and performance.
Requirements
A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 3+ years in a senior, staff, or principal role.
A track record of designing and building distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native services with.NET Core (C) and React or Angular.
Experience with AI/ML services or with architecture work on innovation-driven initiatives.
Strong experience with domain-driven design, microservices, and event-driven architecture using Apache Kafka or similar tools such as RabbitMQ or AWS SNS/SQS, including familiarity with saga patterns.
Hands-on experience architecting solutions on Azure or AWS, covering serverless functions, messaging queues, managed databases, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Bicep.
Solid experience designing CRM integrations, especially with Salesforce, and with external systems that exchange and synchronize data through structured APIs.
A record of leading architecture initiatives that improve scalability, performance, reliability, and developer experience.
A strong grasp of CI/CD, observability, DevSecOps, and secrets management practices.
Clear communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, government, insurance, or banking.
Experience applying FHIR, HL7, or X12 standards in healthcare systems.
Familiarity with cross-cloud or hybrid-cloud architecture patterns.
Strong candidates will also:
Handle ambiguity well, zoom out to assess systems as a whole, and stay hands-on enough to unblock teams in code.
Explain architectural trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Coach and raise the level of other engineers through code reviews and design discussions, not only their own output.
Balance architectural rigor with delivery speed and product needs, rather than favoring one over the other.
Own outcomes at the system level and drive multi-team initiatives to completion, not just work within one service.
Use LOGIC in decisions, keep execution moving in a fast-paced setting, and recognize small and large wins.
Value inclusion, and work well with people whose experiences and perspectives differ from their own.
Bring grit and ambition to hard problems, and back new ideas within the team.
Keep customers' humanity in mind, using their needs as the reason for the work.
Put truth ahead of telling people what they want to hear.
Collaborate well in a team setting, since collaboration drives innovation and change.
