Description

The company is a specialty care platform that connects people with the best care when they need it most.

It builds a network of the nation's top specialists for surgery, cancer care, infusions and more, which gives employers and their workforces high-quality care at significant cost savings.

Each member gets a dedicated care team, including Care Advocates and nurses, for the full length of their care journey, with the goal of getting them back to health, family and work.

Access to specialists is available nationwide, so quality care is within driving distance for most members.

The company is trusted by the nation's largest employers and cares for more than 6 million members across the country.

The Staff Software Engineer will join the expanding product engineering pods in a strategic, highly visible role that shapes architectural consistency, raises technical standards and helps scale a cloud-native healthcare platform for patients, care advocates and enterprise clients.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a senior contributor and technical leader across key domains, with teams inside and across several pods, to deliver cohesive, scalable solutions
  • Design and architect secure, resilient, high-performance services on modern cloud-native technology, with Azure preferred
  • Align architecture with business priorities, regulatory constraints and product roadmaps by working with engineering, product and compliance partners
  • Coach engineers at every level, formally and informally, on architecture, technical growth and system-level thinking
  • Set code quality, testability and design standards through in-depth reviews and working examples
  • Assess frameworks, tools and integration approaches for scale and interoperability
  • Build and update the company's technical guidelines, reference implementations and documentation, with attention to innovation, AI integration and long-term maintainability
  • Lead discovery and prototyping for complex integrations and data flows, including FHIR, HL7 and Kafka
  • Steer the technical direction and delivery of multi-team projects to meet high standards for reliability, security and performance

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience
  • Have 8+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 3+ years in a senior, staff or principal role
  • Have a proven record designing and building distributed systems, APIs and cloud-native services on.NET Core (C) with React or Angular
  • Have deep experience with domain-driven design, microservices and event-driven architecture, using Apache Kafka or similar tools such as RabbitMQ or AWS SNS/SQS, and know saga patterns
  • Have hands-on experience architecting on Azure or AWS, including serverless functions, messaging queues, managed databases and infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Bicep
  • Have led architecture initiatives that improved scalability, performance, reliability and developer experience
  • Know CI/CD, observability, DevSecOps and secrets management best practices
  • Explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Have applied FHIR, HL7 or X12 standards in healthcare systems
  • Have experience with AI/ML services or with architecture for innovation-driven work
  • Know cross-cloud or hybrid-cloud architecture patterns
  • Strong candidates will thrive in ambiguity, zoom out to assess systems as a whole and still dive into code to unblock teams
  • Strong candidates will explain architectural trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong candidates will coach and raise the level of other engineers through code reviews and design discussions, not only their own work
  • Strong candidates will balance architectural rigor with engineering speed and product needs, rather than favouring one over the other
  • Strong candidates will own systems end to end and drive multi-team initiatives to completion, not stay inside one service
  • Strong candidates will use LOGIC in decisions, keep execution moving in a fast environment, and celebrate small and large wins
  • Strong candidates will value inclusion and work well with colleagues whose experiences differ from their own
  • Strong candidates will bring the grit and ambition to tackle big problems and support new ideas from the team
  • Strong candidates will keep customers and humanity at the centre of decisions, and be honest with the truth over telling people what they want to hear
  • Strong candidates will work well in a team, where collaboration drives innovation and change
