Description

The company is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies, from very large enterprises to early-stage startups, use it to take payments, grow revenue, and open new business lines. Its stated goal is to increase the GDP of the internet.

The Risk team builds the trust that this goal depends on. It lets millions of businesses use the platform while protecting users, financial partners, and the wider ecosystem from harm.

Risk decides whether legitimate businesses can access the company's financial services, extends credit to creditworthy businesses, and increasingly gives users tools to manage their own risk. It also prevents fraud and financial crime, manages the company's credit exposure, meets obligations to regulators and financial partners, and helps product teams launch and grow products safely. The team sets the policies and standards for risk management and builds the AI, infrastructure, and product experiences that apply them.

The company processes $1.9 trillion in annual payment volume, about 1.6% of global GDP, across millions of businesses. Its risk problems are unlike those of any other company, and they are growing as AI changes what is possible, the product suite expands, regulators raise expectations, and the company serves more businesses in more countries.

Responsibilities

  • As a Staff Product Manager on the Risk team, you will lead initiatives that span Risk and the wider company and that change how the company and its users manage risk. You will find the most important cross-cutting opportunities across Risk's infrastructure and products, define solutions to its hardest ambiguous problems, and drive work from early technical shaping through delivery and adoption.
  • You will be the product counterpart to Risk's senior technical leaders. You will set infrastructure and product direction across Risk, bring together work that is currently fragmented, and help product teams across the company build on Risk's capabilities. You will stay close to the work and help teams through hard technical and product decisions.
  • Find high-leverage problems that cut across teams, turn ambiguity into clear product and technical direction, and set measurable outcomes.
  • Lead major cross-Risk and company-wide initiatives from first shaping through delivery, adoption, and iteration.
  • Lead the shift in how Risk uses data and AI to identify and reduce risk accurately at scale.
  • Work closely with engineering, data science, and machine learning leaders on architecture, data foundations, models, APIs, and product experiences.
  • Help product teams across the company use Risk's capabilities quickly and well, while steering Risk teams toward coherent, reusable infrastructure and product decisions.
  • Align teams with different goals and constraints, resolve hard tradeoffs, and make progress without relying on formal authority.

Requirements

  • You are an exceptional product leader who pairs strong technical judgment with product insight, strategic range, and rigorous execution. You spot important problems early, bring clarity to very ambiguous areas, and get teams behind solutions that hold up across products, organizations, and time horizons. You are deeply curious, keep up with advances in AI and technology, and find practical ways to apply them to the hardest problems.
  • You can move from multi-year strategy to the details of execution. You align teams and lead transformational work without direct management authority. Your clear thinking, focus on users, and hands-on involvement earn trust. You raise the ambition and effectiveness of the product managers and teams around you without managing them.
  • Minimum requirements
  • You have a record of identifying and delivering high-impact, transformational product or technical initiatives that span several teams or organizations.
  • You can bring clarity to deeply ambiguous problems, set a compelling direction, and carry work through execution and adoption.
  • You have strong technical judgment across data, machine learning, AI, APIs, platforms, and system architecture.
  • You have worked closely with senior engineering, data science, and product leaders to shape technical direction and product strategy.
  • You have strong product judgment across foundational infrastructure and user-facing experiences, and you focus on building capabilities that solve real user problems.
  • You have deep quantitative skill and use data and causal reasoning to understand problems, weigh tradeoffs, and measure results.
  • You have a proven record of influencing senior leaders, aligning teams across organizational boundaries, and driving execution without direct management authority.
  • You communicate exceptionally well in writing and speech. You can explain compelling strategies, persuade technical and executive audiences, and make complex topics clear.
  • You have high agency, intellectual honesty, and curiosity, and you work in a low-ego, hands-on way.
  • Preferred qualifications
  • An engineering background, ideally with a focus on machine learning.
  • Experience applying AI and machine learning to complex, high-stakes problems at scale.
  • Experience with fraud, credit, payments, financial services, trust and safety, or another area where decisions are complex and consequences are asymmetric.
  • Experience working with globally distributed teams.
