Staff Backend Engineer

Description

The company builds a platform that electronics partners and tools use to connect people, processes and data, and the team behind it is responsible for the platform API, the applications framework on top of it, business intelligence reporting, and a new Development Center.

The Development Center will document the platform's APIs, SDKs, connectors and MCP servers and explain how to access them, so users and AI clients can adapt, automate and configure the company's products and services.

Customer adoption is central to the platform's success, and the role is hands-on in the design, build and upkeep of the federated API, its gateway service, the applications that API consumers use, and the standards around them.

The role offers hard technical problems, a lot of independence, a supportive team, and a chance to shape where the platform goes. You will work with technical and non-technical colleagues and represent the platform to internal and external stakeholders, including staff at some of the world's largest technology companies.

The company is a global software business, part of the Renesas Group, headquartered in San Diego, California, that serves PCB designers, supply chain and manufacturing teams through a cloud-based platform.

Responsibilities

• Build, extend and maintain the API, including SDKs, MCP servers and API clients.
• Design, develop and maintain scalable services in C, Python, Golang and other languages.
• Update web services and integrate them with internal and third-party systems.
• Work with backend, frontend, data platform and DevOps engineers so that APIs and related services integrate and deploy smoothly.
• Help customers adopt the platform through the API, SDKs and the tools and processes the company provides.
• Handle customer questions, enhancements and bug reports in your areas.
• Review code and help set coding standards and best practices.
• Take part in team ceremonies and meetings and contribute fully.
• Support platform adoption partnerships.
• Enable automation for customers by using platform and customer data and services.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in a software development technical role.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a sense of ownership.
• Ability to work and think independently, propose ideas and take responsibility for your solutions.
• Working fluency in at least one common programming language, with C preferred, alongside Python, Golang, JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns for web services and platforms.
• Ability to work well with many stakeholders and build rapport and trust with colleagues across the world.
• Preferred: experience developing tools for software development, with prior work on APIs, applications or SDKs.
• Preferred: familiarity with API technologies and using APIs to solve customer business problems.
• Preferred: experience writing clear, user-facing documentation for APIs and SDKs, including code samples.
• Preferred: experience developing Software as a Service products, with an understanding of cloud and on-premises solutions.
• Preferred: experience designing and developing relational databases.
• Preferred: experience with EDA or PCB design tools, Altium products or the electronics industry.
• Preferred: UI or UX experience.
• Nice to have: familiarity with AWS, Azure or GCP, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs or GraphQL.
• A bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in information technology, engineering or a related field.
