Description

This is a senior UX research role for someone who enjoys simplifying complicated systems into clear, user-focused experiences, and who wants to help the scientific community share and publish knowledge.

The company's core business is publishing research. It organises the review, editing and distribution of about 17% of the world's scientific articles, with the aim of speeding up good research for society.

The Submissions team builds tools and services that help authors, reviewers and journal editors work through academic publishing. Products range from large, complex workflow systems to small single-page services, and the work supports researchers and healthcare professionals.

As a Senior UX Researcher I, you lead the team's understanding of user behaviour, needs and motivations. You set the UX research strategy for a business area or product line, act as a hands-on expert in many research and testing methods, and informally mentor other researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and assess customer use cases, and build a solid understanding of them.
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners so that user feedback and testing shape development.
  • Guide the team so that customer needs stay central to its decisions.
  • Share research findings across the organisation.
  • Track competitors and the regulatory environment.
  • Split markets into segments and study the needs of each in more depth.
  • Lead the user-centred research process and mentor junior researchers where needed.
  • Apply a range of UX research techniques.
  • Produce research documents and analysis outputs.

Requirements

  • Design research that fits different contexts.
  • Work comfortably on technical products across varying levels of complexity.
  • Understand how remote, in-person, moderated and unmoderated research differ and how to handle each.
  • Know the company's technology stack in depth.
  • Mentor junior researchers on technical topics.
  • Use Qualtrics, Lookback and UserTesting.com at an expert level.
  • Build strong working relationships with technology teams.

Conditions

Flexible hours: you choose when in the day you work, so you can fit your commitments around your most productive times.

Benefits vary by country, and the company can share the details for your location.

The company is committed to a fair and accessible hiring process. If you need an adjustment or accommodation, tell the company when you apply.

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Wellbeing programmes, life assurance and a competitive contributory pension.
  • Maternity, paternity and shared parental leave.
  • Study assistance and sabbaticals.
  • Long service awards.
