Description

The company is looking for a Senior Staff Product Designer to set direction for a coherent, high-quality mobile experience across its products.

The role sets the strategy, principles, shared patterns and quality standards that link the adaptive experience with the native iOS and Android experiences. You will work across Platform and business units to spot shared customer needs, merge inconsistent approaches, and help teams build mobile experiences that are purposeful, consistent, accessible and suited to each surface.

This is a senior individual contributor role with company-wide reach. You need deep skill in adaptive and native mobile design, strong product and interaction judgment, and the ability to align a complex, federated organization without formal authority.

The role owns the company-wide mobile vision, principles and design strategy, the framework for choosing and coordinating adaptive and native approaches, shared patterns, standards and quality criteria, reference experiences and prototypes, cross-product audits and reviews, enablement and the community of practice, and the identification of systemic gaps.

It works alongside product teams rather than replacing them. Business-unit and Platform teams keep ownership of product-specific mobile strategy within the shared direction, customer and business outcomes, end-to-end design and delivery, requirements, sequencing, resourcing, roadmap commitments, and validation with their users.

Both sides share accountability for coherent experiences across adaptive, native and desktop, for turning recurring needs into reusable patterns and platform capabilities, for meeting the quality bar on high-priority work, for resolving gaps between customer needs, design intent, platform capability and implementation, and for improving reuse and consistency without blocking product innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Set the enterprise mobile strategy and a single multi-year vision spanning adaptive and native platforms.
  • Decide, using clear principles, which experiences should be adaptive, native or deliberately shared, and give teams guidance for making those calls.
  • Turn company, platform and design system priorities into a focused mobile roadmap.
  • Find the mobile opportunities with the most value for simplifying work, supporting work in context and reaching beyond the desktop.
  • Present mobile strategy in senior design, product and engineering forums.
  • Get Platform and business-unit leaders to agree on shared priorities, investment, dependencies and success measures.
  • Spot recurring mobile workflows, interaction models and customer needs across products and business units.
  • Define reusable patterns for navigation, search, approvals, tasks, notifications, data entry, record interaction, collaboration, offline and interrupted work, AI-assisted actions and other common enterprise workflows.
  • Map how shared patterns, adaptive capabilities, native conventions and product needs relate to one another.
  • Make sure patterns handle different devices, form factors, input methods, orientations, operating system behaviors, connectivity and user contexts.
  • Work with design system designers and engineers to turn proven patterns into guidance, assets and system capabilities.
  • Keep the pattern set coherent while allowing deliberate variation where customer needs or platform norms require it.
  • Define what best-in-class mobile quality means: usability, interaction, visual craft, perceived performance, accessibility, resilience and platform fit.
  • Build reference experiences, prototypes and exemplars that show the target experience and quality bar.
  • Give strategic direction and hands-on critique on high-impact mobile work across Platform and business units.
  • Run cross-product reviews to find fragmentation, duplicate solutions, system gaps and reuse opportunities.
  • Help teams solve hard mobile interaction problems without taking over their product ownership or delivery.
  • Make sure shared experiences are built for real mobile use, not shrunken or rearranged desktop workflows.
  • Create a framework for deciding when a use case is best served by an adaptive experience, a native experience or a coordinated mix of both.
  • Set principles so users can move between desktop, adaptive and native surfaces without losing context or confidence.
  • Identify which capabilities should stay consistent across surfaces and which should follow native platform behavior.
  • Guide teams through tradeoffs involving reach, speed, fidelity, device capabilities, performance, accessibility, maintainability and customer expectations.
  • Find gaps in adaptive and native platform capabilities and rank them as system and platform needs.
  • Work with engineering and product leaders to confirm that design intent is feasible, scalable and supported by the platform.
  • Write mobile principles, interaction standards, design guidance and decision frameworks that teams can apply consistently.
  • Draw on iOS, Android, responsive and adaptive conventions while keeping a recognizable the company-free company experience.
  • Set standards for touch, gestures, hierarchy, density, input, feedback, motion, system permissions, device capabilities, error recovery and edge cases.
  • Build accessibility, localization, responsive behavior, privacy, trust and inclusion into mobile standards from the start.
  • Explain how mobile patterns connect to the design system, content standards, AI experience principles and platform architecture.
  • Update standards as devices, operating system conventions, AI interaction models and customer expectations change.
  • Create playbooks, decision tools, pattern guides, workshops and demonstrations that help teams design strong mobile experiences.
  • Coach designers and cross-functional teams on mobile strategy, interaction and system design.
  • Start and run a mobile design community of practice across Platform and business units.
  • Lead working sessions that reconcile competing needs and turn product-specific solutions into reusable patterns where that makes sense.
  • Help design leaders assess capability gaps and build mobile craft across their teams.
  • Help distributed teams move faster and make better mobile decisions while following shared experience standards.
  • Work with Research, Product, Analytics and customer-facing teams to learn mobile contexts, unmet needs, adoption barriers and workflow opportunities.
  • Keep an ongoing view of mobile experience quality across the product portfolio.
  • Use customer evidence, product data, competitive analysis, design audits and team feedback to set priorities.
  • Define measures for mobile usability, adoption, task success, satisfaction, consistency, reuse, accessibility and experience quality.
  • Share insights, progress, risks and recommendations with design and cross-functional leadership.

Requirements

  • You have 10+ years of experience in product design, mobile experience design, design systems, interaction design or a related field.
  • You have set mobile product or experience strategy across several products, platforms or business areas.
  • You have deep expertise in native iOS and Android design as well as adaptive or responsive mobile design.
  • You have strong interaction design and systems thinking, backed by a portfolio of complex mobile workflows and reusable patterns.
  • You know Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Material Design, mobile accessibility standards and the conventions and capabilities of current mobile platforms well.
  • You have judged when an experience should be native, adaptive, responsive or coordinated across surfaces.
  • You can turn customer and product needs into principles, frameworks, patterns, standards and clear design direction.
  • You have influenced senior design, product and engineering partners in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • You have built prototypes and reference experiences that make strategy, behavior and design intent clear.
  • You understand enterprise workflows, platform products, shared services and the challenges of designing for complex or regulated environments.
  • You have used research, analytics, audits and qualitative evidence to find systemic opportunities and measure progress.
  • You communicate, facilitate, tell stories and critique well for both practitioner and executive audiences.
  • You have mentored designers and grown craft and strategic capability without formal management authority.
  • Preferred: experience in a federated design organization or with an enterprise design system serving multiple business units.
  • Preferred: experience with workflow, productivity, enterprise SaaS, field-service, employee or operational mobile products.
  • Preferred: familiarity with offline-first experiences, push notifications, deep linking, device permissions, authentication, security and device-specific capabilities.
  • Preferred: experience designing AI-assisted or agentic mobile experiences, including patterns for trust, control, confirmation, interruption and proactive assistance.
  • Preferred: familiarity with mobile development constraints and frameworks such as SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose, React Native, Flutter or adaptive web technologies.
  • Preferred: experience setting up mobile governance, contribution models or communities of practice at scale.
