Sr. Staff Experience Designer

The role sits within a design team that works with writers, researchers, product specialists and engineers to build usable, accessible, forward-looking products. The team aims to create an emotional connection with the community and practices inclusive design across both online and offline experiences.

Responsibilities

• Help shape the platform's evolution from a design standpoint, keeping it consistent with the brand and product architecture.
• Work with product managers, engineers, data scientists, researchers and writers to define problems and goals, map user flows, prototype interactions and launch new products and services.
• Shape leadership decisions with a clear point of view, and autonomously define and solve highly complex problems.
• Anticipate business challenges and create product solutions on your own initiative.
• Lead a group of designers, writers, program managers, researchers, product managers and engineers indirectly, acting as the de facto creative director on innovative projects.
• Mentor designers and guide them through the end-to-end interaction and visual design of products and services for a global audience.
• Build strong relationships with leaders inside and outside core product teams, managing executive stakeholders.
• Understand the technical, business and user opportunities and constraints.
• Scope project work with PMs and engineers, and help set the design process and timeline.
• Shape how the company appears in EMEA, Latin America and APAC markets, making global products feel local and feeding market insights back into product strategy.
• Define and deliver an international roadmap covering both tactical UI improvements and larger strategic bets, working across time zones and functions.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or an equivalent mix of education and progressive experience.
• 12+ years of experience as a designer or design leader.
• Excellent visual and interaction design craft.
• Ability to set the design direction and process and lead others through it.
• Ability to scope your own work and your teammates' work accurately.
• Ability to motivate small to medium teams to transform a product with ease.
• Proven ability to help a team handle ambiguity and set vision and strategy for global products.
• Systems thinking, with the ability to look beyond screens and design offline experiences.
• Experience making complex information, tools and services easy for an audience to understand.
• Strong storytelling, presentation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience designing platforms and systems.
• Experience managing and working with research and writing disciplines.
• Experience building a product from 0 to 1, or redesigning major parts of a product, experience or service.
• Ability to bring a high standard of visual and interaction craft and to work in an AI-enabled way.

Conditions

Based in London. This is an individual contributor role reporting to a Manager or Director of Experience Design.
