Sr./Staff Data Engineer

This role centers on hands-on data engineering, with technical leadership and architecture input added as seniority allows.

The team needs someone who knows modern data architectures well, solves technical problems independently, and builds data systems that are scalable, efficient, and easy to maintain.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and run the backend and machine learning data infrastructure, covering event ingestion, stream processing, the data warehouse, pipelines, visualization, analytics, and applications.
• Build analytics tools on top of the pipelines that show customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business metrics, and build and maintain distributed pipelines for ETL, feature engineering, and model execution.
• Build data tools for analysts and data scientists to help improve the product, and keep data separated and secure across national borders through multiple data centers and AWS regions.
• Work with data and analytics specialists to improve data system capabilities, end-to-end processing, troubleshooting, diagnosis, performance benchmarking, load balancing, and code reviews.
• Mentor data engineers by giving technical guidance, sharing best practices, and supporting their growth.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field, including significant time designing and maintaining production data or machine learning systems.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, including advanced querying, data transformations, and performance tuning.
• Experience building and maintaining large-scale ETL or ELT pipelines and distributed data processing systems.
• Hands-on work with modern warehouses such as Snowflake or BigQuery, or with open table formats such as Iceberg.
• Experience with processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Flink, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS or GCP.
• Solid grasp of data modeling, database design, and data architecture.
• Experience putting data quality, monitoring, and reliability practices into production.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive complex technical projects on your own.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Demonstrated leadership potential and real interest in moving into people management, including mentoring engineers, building teams, and shaping technical strategy.

Conditions

The role is hybrid, and the company is hiring in the Bay Area.

The estimated base pay range is $160,000 to $180,000. Stock options also factor into total compensation.

The posted range is the expected low and high end and may change with business needs. Starting pay depends on factors such as work location, skills and experience, market demand, and internal parity. The talent partner can share more details.
