Data Engineer Intern

The team is building data pipelines, processing systems, and analytics tools that support business intelligence, product work, and data-based decisions across the company.

This internship suits someone with a solid base in programming and data concepts who likes hard technical problems and wants to learn current data engineering tools and practices.

You will work next to experienced engineers on real data systems, take on meaningful projects, and build technical skills in a collaborative setting that moves quickly.

Responsibilities

• Help design, build, and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure for analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning.
• Support ETL and ELT work that gathers, transforms, and organizes data from many sources.
• Write and tune SQL queries and Python scripts for data processing, reporting, and analysis.
• Work with data engineers, software engineers, and analytics staff to make data more accessible, reliable, and high quality.
• Help build and maintain data tools and dashboards that show business and product performance.
• Get hands-on experience with cloud data infrastructure, data warehouses, and current data processing technologies.
• Help diagnose data pipeline problems and find performance gains, with senior engineers guiding how fixes are built.
• Take part in code reviews, technical discussions, and team meetings while learning engineering practices.
• Write up data processes, workflows, and technical solutions so others can keep building on them.

Requirements

• You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field.
• You have basic working knowledge of Python and SQL, gained through writing queries, handling data, or building scripts in coursework, projects, or internships.
• You understand the basics of databases, data structures, and data processing.
• You are familiar with ETL or ELT processes, data pipelines, or data warehousing concepts.
• You want to learn current AI and data tools such as Claude, Snowflake, BigQuery, Apache Spark, Flink, or Apache Airflow.
• You think analytically, solve problems well, pay close attention to detail, and are willing to learn.
• You communicate and collaborate well and work effectively on a team.
• You are proactive, curious, and keen on working with data and new technologies.
• Technical project, coursework, or internship experience in data engineering, software development, or analytics is a plus but not required.

Conditions

This role is on-site at the San Mateo office, and the company is looking for candidates in the Bay Area who can commute there.

The estimated pay range is $20-$25 per hour.

The posted range is the expected low and high for the position and may change with business needs. Starting pay depends on factors such as work location, skills and experience, market demand, and internal parity. The talent partner can share more details.
