Description

The company's aeronautics systems unit is hiring a Senior Principal Systems Engineer for its Systems Engineering organization, which is made up of qualified specialists.

You will take systems through the full engineering lifecycle, from early concept and requirements work through integration, verification and validation, and delivery.

The role involves regular contact with customers and leadership, including preparing and giving technical briefings.

Responsibilities

  • Guide systems through the full lifecycle: concept and system definition, requirements development, decomposition and allocation, interface definition and management, and integration, verification and validation planning and execution.
  • Build verification and validation strategies and plans, including requirement verification plans and system test and verification plans.
  • Work with test and specialty engineering teams to confirm that test procedures interpret and verify requirements correctly.
  • Create and maintain interface control documents (ICDs) for internal and external interfaces, coordinating through Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), suppliers, customers and interface working groups.
  • Help develop and document system architectures and concepts of operations (CONOPS), working with cross-functional teams so the architecture meets performance, reliability, safety and maintainability goals.
  • Contribute systems engineering input to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and to integration and test readiness reviews.
  • Prepare and present technical briefings to internal leadership and external customers.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in a STEM field and at least 8 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM field and at least 6 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a PhD and at least 4 years of relevant military or professional experience.
  • Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements development and decomposition, requirements management and traceability, and verification and validation planning and execution.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, DOORS Next, or similar.
  • Experience developing ICDs and defining interfaces.
  • Experience preparing and delivering technical presentations to customers or leadership.
  • An active U.S. Government Secret clearance, with an investigation within the last 6 years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • The ability to obtain and keep a Top Secret clearance and a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a timeframe set by business needs.
  • The ability to obtain and keep subsequent SAP PARs after starting, so you can fully support the statement of work.
  • Preferred: an active USG Top Secret clearance and/or a current Special Access or SCI clearance, as the program requires.
  • Preferred: experience supporting major systems engineering milestones such as SRR, PDR and CDR.
  • Preferred: experience with system architecture development, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), or CONOPS definition.
  • Preferred: hands-on work with HW/SW integration and test, including writing test procedures and resolving discrepancies and anomalies.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Agile development methods or CI/CD environments.
  • Preferred: experience coordinating with suppliers on technical requirements, interfaces and verification expectations.

Conditions

Primary level base salary range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00. This is a general guideline; the final offer depends on the position's scope and responsibilities and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Location is Rancho Bernardo, CA, El Segundo, CA, or Palmdale, CA.

Relocation assistance may be available.

An active Secret clearance is required to start.

Travel of about 10% of the time is expected.

The application window is estimated at 20 days from the posting date, and may be shortened or extended based on business needs and candidate availability.
