Sr Engineering Manager, API Platform

It runs from more than 200 public data centers worldwide plus many private sites at the network edge, and is described as the largest in-line cloud security platform of its kind.

This is a senior management role on the API Platform team, reporting to the Sr. Director for that team. You will help deliver scalable, secure, high-performing platforms for engineering teams, with a focus on platform efficiency, scalability and developer experience while leading senior technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision and roadmap for the API Platform and developer tooling, keeping them aligned with company goals, technical scalability and industry best practices
• Govern how APIs are standardized, designed and maintained so developers across teams and products work more easily and productively
• Set the architecture and standards for product and provisioning APIs so every state change across distributed services is reliable, reproducible and fully traceable
• Lead and coach a group of Senior Staff Engineers and other skilled technical contributors, building a collaborative culture where people keep growing
• Oversee delivery of microservices, workflow workers and SDKs built for reliability, availability and safe retries in Java, Go and Python, using gRPC, Temporal, Postgres and Redis
• Partner with Product Management and Security to build scalable, secure solutions that fit specific business needs
• Break down knowledge silos so core architecture, dataset design and foundational services are built together and the whole team can operate and debug them in production

• 8+ years as an engineering leader, including 3+ years managing technical teams for developer tooling, API platforms or cloud-based systems across Java, Go and JavaScript
• 10+ years of total software engineering experience, with hands-on work designing APIs and SDKs for containerized environments such as Kubernetes and Docker
• Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts such as caching, queues and pub/sub, plus cloud experience with AWS, GCP or Azure
• Advanced knowledge of API-first design and standards, including OpenAPI/Swagger, REST, JSON and Authn/z
• Preferred qualifications: practical experience applying modern AI tools to the software development lifecycle
• Preferred qualifications: proven experience in cloud security and networking
• Preferred qualifications: experience driving workflow automation and developer productivity with open-source or proprietary tools
• Preferred qualifications: a proactive advocate of modern engineering practices such as DevSecOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code across large organizations

Conditions

This is a hybrid role based in the Santa Clara, CA office, 3 days a week

Full-time position

Base pay range is $212,000 - $265,000 USD. Actual pay may be higher or lower depending on skills, experience and relevant education or training, and the range covers US locations. It excludes commission, bonus, equity (if applicable) and benefits
