Staff Engineer, Product Software

We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer to build applications and networking software for the next generation of our networking platform, with a focus on software that is simple to run, dependable and fast.

The work centers on network services delivered through virtualized compute platforms close to the network, providing network primitives and a foundation for future cloud-native network software.

You will work with the team on highly scalable, reliable systems and be a key contributor to the components that shape what customers experience.

This is a new position in the organization.

Responsibilities

• Help design and build a set of software services that extend our networking offerings across network-adjacent virtualized compute platforms.
• Design and implement scalable, efficient distributed systems alongside teammates.
• Take part in design discussions and code reviews to keep code quality high.
• Write unit and integration tests and add them to CI/CD pipelines, so code moves from commit to deployment in minutes with confidence.
• Find technical debt and drive steady improvements to software quality.
• Work with support and operations teams to make software production-ready, observable and supported.
• Encourage innovation, excellence and collaboration with other business functions.
• Join incident management, troubleshoot with the team and fix production issues quickly.
• Take a turn in the on-call rotation once software is running in production.
• Take a proactive, collaborative approach when working with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software development experience, ideally building and operating highly reliable distributed systems.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Hands-on experience building software-defined, multi-tenant networking platforms at scale using cloud-native networking technologies.
• Working knowledge of L2/L3 networking protocols and concepts such as BGP, EVP-LAN and IPSEC.
• Experience with network management protocols gRPC and Netconf.
• Experience with containers and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, or open-source alternatives.
• Experience with public cloud services on AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Expertise in automating application deployments to Kubernetes on x86 systems.
• Experience with open source and networking communities and industry forums, such as the Linux Foundation.
• A solid grasp of the application development stack.
• Recent and proficient experience with Golang.
• Strong written and verbal communication, so you can explain findings, recommendations and technical detail clearly.

Conditions

Target base pay for the full-time role by location: US Redwood City office (GHQ) 142,000 - 212,000 USD per year; US Dallas Infomart office (DAI) 118,000 - 176,000 USD per year; US Tampa office (TAO) 118,000 - 176,000 USD per year; US New York City office (NYO1) 130,000 - 194,000 USD per year; Canada Toronto office (TRO) 88,000 - 132,000 CAD per year.

Ranges show the minimum and maximum target for new hires, based on role, level and location, and may be updated based on business needs. Individual pay depends on job-related skills, experience, and education or training.

The stated range covers base pay only and excludes bonus, equity and benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
