Software Test Engineer III

Description

The company makes point of sale solutions for retail and has a large installed base, including self-checkout systems used by well-known grocery, fuel rewards and apparel retailers.

The Software Test Engineer III leads quality assurance for these point of sale solutions and gives technical test direction to the team.

You will turn customer requirements and technical designs into test scenarios that verify the solution.

You will join a growing engineering team focused on keeping a strong team culture and shipping quality retail products.

The company is a billion-dollar global business based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

The role must be located near or within the Raleigh-Durham area.

Responsibilities

• Work with test management to put quality improvement processes in place, maintain them, and make sure test coverage is adequate.
• Find gaps in testing across the solution and recommend how to close them.
• Track industry changes in process, practice, and technology, and apply them to improve the solution and test tooling.
• Estimate testing work, including system setup and configuration, test case creation, execution time, and resources.
• Set up test environments, including hardware and software installs.
• Manage the test equipment inventory and work with management to get more equipment when needed.
• Join agile ceremonies and work with product and development teams to understand user needs and define test coverage.
• Review design documents, functional specifications, user scenarios, and current test coverage.
• Analyze, design, build, and run test cases, procedures, and results, then report defects and follow them until resolved.
• Keep project leads and managers informed about test status and risks, and give input on risk and quality decisions.
• Write test plans, custom installation procedures, process improvement notes, and traceability matrices.
• Give technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong grasp of software test methods and quality strategy.
• 5+ years of software test engineering experience.
• Experience with test coverage analysis, test execution, and defect management.
• Experience working in agile SDLC and using agile project management tools.
• Test automation experience with tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, Jenkins, Postman, or TestNG.
• Basic Java programming skills.
• Basic knowledge of Linux commands and the filesystem.
• Clear verbal and written communication, with the ability to read, write, and speak English well.
• Preferred: retail industry experience.
• Preferred: experience setting up physical and virtual test environments, including local containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes, and full customer-like integrated solutions.
