Description

The company is hiring a product manager to help combine and grow its agentic AI platform, the common base for every solution built on it, which draws on twenty years of retail know-how. In the near term, the role covers launching the platform's first capabilities and moving existing work onto one shared core across intelligence and knowledge services, the developer platform, and the agent fleet that runs on them. The platform serves internal teams as well as the customers and partners who build on it.

This is a hands-on role focused on shipping. You will write specs, work with engineering to get capabilities out, put them in front of the people using them, and bring back what you learn. You will work closely with platform and engineering leaders on direction, turn that direction into well-defined work that gets delivered, and use evidence from real usage to guide what comes next.

The goal is to put the company's retail expertise, currently spread across its products, architecture, and the judgment behind them, into one place where anyone can use it, whether they are building, looking up an answer, or serving a customer. Success means engineers ship faster, expertise is reachable without waiting on a specialist, people take on work that used to require one, and customers and partners build on the same foundation.

The company is a global business at billion-dollar scale, based in Research Triangle Park, NC. It supplies retail store solutions and holds the world's largest installed market share in that area.

Responsibilities

  • Own the shared platform backlog across intelligence and knowledge services, the developer platform, and the agent fleet.
  • Turn business needs from internal stakeholder teams into clear product requirements and specs that engineering can act on.
  • Work with engineering and architecture every day on platform structure, pointing out feasibility problems and trade-offs.
  • Help run the governance process for building, reviewing, and releasing agents, including registry entries and ownership, risk tiers, human review, evaluation thresholds, promotion criteria, and the data access and customer data protections applied at each step.
  • Ship curated workflows, skills, and reference patterns that make the platform quicker to use and more dependable in its output, plus onboarding documentation so teams can start without the platform team present.
  • Use the platform yourself, prototype what you are asking for, and drive adoption with teams directly, not only through written docs.
  • Collect feedback and usage signals from teams, turn friction into concrete backlog items, and bring the evidence that shapes the roadmap.
  • Build the instrumentation and reporting for the platform's KPIs so teams and leadership can see progress: adoption and breadth of use, onboarding time, the share of portal usage that reaches merged and deployed code, developer experience, agent and retrieval quality, and usage cost and attribution.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination.
  • 5-8 years of product management experience, ideally with some work on platform, developer-tools, or infrastructure products.
  • Working knowledge of agentic AI concepts such as tool use, retrieval/RAG, multi-agent orchestration, and agent evaluation, and a real interest in going deeper hands-on.
  • Ability to write clear product requirements and specs and to rank a backlog by priority.
  • Enough technical understanding to work with engineering day to day on APIs and platform architecture, ask questions, and follow trade-off discussions, without necessarily leading architecture decisions.
  • A builder's habit: you use the tools you manage, try things yourself before writing a spec, and can demonstrate an idea rather than only describe it.
  • Experience with an internal-facing product, or a strong preference for internal platform work over customer-facing feature work.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and escalating when needed, without waiting for fully defined requirements.
  • Preferred: prior exposure to RAG, LLM-based assistants, or agent frameworks in a shipped product.
  • Preferred: familiarity with evaluation, tracing, or observability for LLM and agent systems.
  • Preferred: familiarity with DORA metrics or platform-engineering measurement concepts such as deployment frequency, lead time, and developer satisfaction or NPS.
  • Preferred: experience instrumenting a shared service and building reporting that people actually use.
  • Preferred: experience with a platform serving both internal teams and external customers, covering multi-tenancy, self-service onboarding, packaging, or support models.
  • Preferred: exposure to usage metering, cost attribution, or internal chargeback for a shared service.
  • Preferred: experience in retail technology or another vertical with SaaS and on-premises hybrid constraints.
  • Preferred: exposure to working with Legal or Compliance on data-rights or AI risk questions.
  • Preferred: experience supporting an internal tool or platform used by other teams rather than end customers.
