Description

This software engineer role is in the space domain, building mission-critical space system software for government customers.

The role suits developers with 3+ years of experience who want more independence and want to deepen their skills alongside senior engineers.

You will take well-scoped features from implementation through deployment, handle harder problems over time, and start helping others grow.

The stack includes Python, React, AWS or Azure, and Kubernetes, with the complexity of the work increasing over time.

The software you build directly supports critical space missions.

Responsibilities

  • Own well-scoped features end to end, from implementation through deployment, with support from senior team members.
  • Build full-stack features from clear requirements with little day-to-day guidance.
  • Split medium-sized tasks into steps that can be implemented.
  • Spot potential issues and edge cases while you implement.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that follows team standards and patterns.
  • Write thorough unit and integration tests.
  • Take part in code reviews, giving feedback and acting on feedback you receive.
  • Debug problems in your own code and, at times, in parts of the codebase you know less well.
  • Pair with junior engineers and answer their questions, and review their code with useful feedback.
  • Document your work and share what you have learned with new team members.
  • Build RESTful APIs and microservices under senior guidance, moving from monolithic designs toward event-driven and serverless solutions.
  • Deploy and troubleshoot applications on AWS or Azure.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines and resolve common deployment problems.
  • Join Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and retrospectives.
  • Work with product managers and designers to clarify requirements and user needs.
  • Report progress, blockers, and technical challenges to the team.
  • Join technical discussions, asking good questions and offering ideas.
  • Keep learning new technologies and patterns, improve code quality and performance in your area, and suggest process changes.

Requirements

  • Required: Willing to be submitted for and able to obtain a TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Required: 3+ years of hands-on professional experience developing, testing, and deploying software.
  • Required: Solid skills in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, with the ability to write clean, testable code.
  • Required: Experience with Git, code reviews, and Agile or Scrum teams.
  • Required: Experience building or working with RESTful APIs and web applications using technologies such as React and FastAPI.
  • Required: Ability to work well on a team, explain technical concepts clearly, and collaborate with cross-functional partners.
  • Desired: Hands-on experience deploying applications to AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Desired: Experience with Spring Boot, React, or similar modern frameworks in production.
  • Desired: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Desired: Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Desired: Understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
  • Desired: Experience working with microservices architectures.
  • Desired: Exposure to automated testing frameworks and practices.
