Software Engineer II - SDET - AI Gateway (Hybrid, ROU)

Customers in every industry depend on the platform to keep their operations running.

The team is building the company's AI Gateway, which gives applications one way to reach AI models hosted by AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and other providers. The gateway handles authentication, routing, usage controls and differences between provider APIs.

This is a role for a Cloud SDET Engineer II. Much of the work is writing code, and you will work with backend engineers to investigate problems across services and cloud providers. The aim is to make new features testable and shippable without relying on manual regression testing.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain automated test frameworks for the gateway, backend services and cloud integrations.
• Write end-to-end, integration, API and regression tests that cover gateway behaviour across several AI providers.
• Test the integrations with AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, OpenAI, Anthropic and other model providers.
• Automate cloud authentication flows, including API keys, IAM roles, role assumption, service accounts and identity federation.
• Check AI API behaviour, covering streaming, tool calling, embeddings, multimodal requests and provider-specific errors.
• Test routing, retries, failover, rate limits, quotas, budgets, authentication, authorization and usage metering in the gateway.
• Create reusable test utilities, provider mocks, simulators and automated cloud test environments.
• Build performance, load and resilience tests for provider outages, throttling, timeouts, network failures and partial responses.
• Add automated tests to CI/CD pipelines, make them more reliable and shorten the feedback loop for developers.
• Trace defects through logs, metrics, traces and source code, and convert production issues into automated regression tests.
• Work with software engineers on feature design and testability from the start of development.

Requirements

• At least 2 years in software development, SDET, test automation or a similar engineering role.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Python, Java or another modern language.
• Hands-on experience building automated test frameworks and tools, not only individual test cases.
• Experience testing backend services, REST APIs and integrations between distributed systems.
• A solid grasp of HTTP, JSON, networking, authentication and common failure modes.
• Comfort working with Linux, Git, Docker and debugging tools.
• Ability to read production code, follow failures across services and find root causes.
• A solid understanding of test design, regression testing, negative testing and automated integration testing.
• Ability to own assigned features independently and collaborate well with other engineers.
• Bonus points: Go for backend development or test automation.
• Bonus points: testing API gateways, proxies, microservices or cloud infrastructure platforms.
• Bonus points: familiarity with LLM APIs from AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, OpenAI or Anthropic.
