Software Developer II (Technical Writing)

The company is a global media and entertainment business with three segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer, and TV Media.

Its portfolio spans many well-known brands.

This role sits in the digital news arm, where you will help decide how technical processes get documented from here on.

You will work with front-end, back-end, mobile, and design systems teams, plus program managers, to improve onboarding for engineers, designers, program managers and end users.

Teams are spread across several organizations, so you will need to work on your own and take initiative.

You will report to the Principal Manager of Program and Delivery for the digital news arm.

Responsibilities

• Define and put into practice a technical documentation strategy for the digital news platforms.
• Write and maintain documentation that is clear, easy to use, and sets the standard for the organization.
• Gather processes and context from full-stack teams, designers, program managers and other stakeholders, and decide what is worth recording.
• Build resources that ease onboarding for engineers, designers, program managers and end users.
• Make internal tools, editorial workflows and consumer sites, including the main news website, easier to understand.
• Reach out to teams in other groups on your own to get the information you need, and become the go-to documentation resource that closes gaps.
• Use JavaScript, Java, and Python to contribute to code when needed, and read other languages to document projects and workstreams.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software engineering experience on scalable systems.
• Hands-on technical writing, particularly documenting software and system architecture.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, Java, and Python, and the ability to pick up other languages as needed.
• Experience with Markdown, Confluence, or GitHub Wiki is a plus.
• Ability to explain complex technical ideas simply, in writing and in person.
• Able to work with minimal oversight across a spread-out, multi-location team, and you enjoy connecting groups.
• Sharp eye for detail in both code and prose, and comfortable managing several projects and priorities.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Conditions

Hiring salary range: $94,200.00 - $150,700.00 per year, disclosed where legally required.

Actual pay depends on factors such as geographic location, external market data, internal equity, skill set, experience, training, education and performance.

Other compensation may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
