Description

The company is scaling quickly to build advanced mobility systems for government customers.

You will join the electrical systems, controls and software (ESCS) group and report to its executive general manager.

The work covers vehicle and non-vehicle platforms, and you will write code yourself while folding in requirements specific to the company's platforms.

Several programs run on compressed schedules, including in-house controls work such as custom Vehicle Interface Modules and tuning performance across complicated electrical architectures.

The environment is ambiguous and start-up-like, so you will need to work independently and make sound calls.

The team works across functions and has to balance GM engineering practices against strict government specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key technical contributor on designing, building and deploying embedded control systems for the company's customer base.
  • Write and test controls in C, MATLAB and Simulink for both vehicle and non-vehicle systems.
  • Implement control algorithms for propulsion, chassis and other complex systems into new or existing supervisory controls, working with systems integration engineers and technical leads.
  • Solve hard technical problems as they come up, in an environment with shifting information.
  • Tune controls calibration to improve performance.
  • Work with embedded controls teams across the wider GM organization to build requirements unique to the company's government customers.
  • Help verify software and validate features.
  • Keep GM best practices and government specifications in line with each other.
  • Explain and document why algorithms are designed the way they are and how they behave.
  • Take part in electrical design and peer reviews, and present progress to integration teams and leadership.
  • Keep up with new simulation and controls techniques.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in electrical, mechanical or aerospace engineering, computer science or computer engineering.
  • Embedded controls experience covering algorithms, software or calibration.
  • At least 2 years of algorithm development in C, MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Hands-on use of INCA, Vehicle Spy (VSpy), Git and Jenkins.
  • Familiarity with data logging tools and file formats.
  • The legal ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • You must be a U.S. person, meaning a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee.
  • Preferred: a master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Preferred: experience with an Agile CI/CD workflow.
  • Preferred: familiarity with GM's VIP electrical architecture.
  • Preferred: GM Level 2 Driving Certification.
  • Preferred: vehicle development and vehicle build experience.
  • Preferred: GM DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt certification, or currently working toward one.

Conditions

Applicants may need to pass a role-related assessment and/or a pre-employment screening before starting.

The company is committed to a workplace free of unlawful discrimination that actively supports inclusion.

Benefits

  • Support for your well-being at work and at home from your first day, along with GM's total rewards program.
