Description

The company's space sector is hiring a principal radar signal processing engineer for its Colorado Springs, CO team.

The role suits someone who enjoys hard technical problems, leads technical direction, and wants to follow work from early concept through to real operational effect.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and tuning of radar algorithms and mission capabilities so they meet mode and system performance targets.
  • Turn system-level requirements into plans for algorithm design and implementation.
  • Build mathematical algorithms for radar modes and sensor implementations.
  • Run functional and performance analyses of radar systems and their mission modes.
  • Plan and support software integration of system algorithms, modeling real-time behavior on the radar platform.
  • Carry out kinematic trajectory threat analysis, mission scenario modeling and simulation, and technology trade studies.
  • Help define and derive operational performance requirements for radar systems, then analyze performance and data.
  • Do mission engineering across the Systems Engineering V so delivered performance matches the operational capability needed.
  • Weigh the performance of new systems and architectures against cost and mission needs, and judge how existing and emerging systems perform in realistic environments.
  • Work in cross-disciplinary Integrated Product Teams: gather stakeholder input, synthesize data, and report results to leaders at several levels.
  • Give technical guidance and lead the team through development and implementation.
  • Shape overall system architecture and performance alongside radar, systems, software and mission engineering experts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 5 years of professional experience, or a master's degree plus 3 years, or a PhD plus 2 years.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance at time of application, current and within scope.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Proven expertise in MATLAB and code prototyping.
  • Working knowledge of radar signal processing: I&Q phase detection, matched filtering and pulse compression, moving target indication or Doppler processing, beamforming and direction of arrival, and target tracking and identification.
  • Experience across the Systems Engineering lifecycle for system development.
  • Experience with signal processing and radar systems.
  • Experience with radar Blake charts for operational performance analysis.
  • Proficiency with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence and similar), SharePoint, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Solid problem solver who can plan and carry out technical projects.
  • Able to work on your own, organize complex tasks, and work well in cross-functional teams with a strong customer focus.
  • Preferred: active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at time of application.
  • Preferred: proven application of radar signal processing concepts, including the topics listed above.
  • Preferred: experience with Python, C/C++, Java or related languages.
  • Preferred: experience with Agile methods such as Kanban and Scrum.
  • Preferred: experience deriving and decomposing requirements for system design and planning.
