Description

Bertram Labs is the technology consulting and transformation arm of Bertram Capital, a private equity firm that invests in lower middle market companies. Rather than relying on financial engineering or squeezing near-term cash flow, the firm reinvests and uses technology to grow portfolio companies, covering digital marketing, e-commerce, big data and analytics, application development, and internal and external platform work.

The team is made up of software engineers and marketing professionals who deliver projects for portfolio companies in Business Services, Consumer, and Industrials. In this role you will work across Bertram Capital and those portfolio companies, with a main focus on designing, building, and scaling the internal CRM for Bertram Capital and its portfolio companies, and on leading ERP-to-ERP migrations as portfolio companies move between platforms.

The role suits a self-directed individual contributor who can keep current systems running while building new enterprise solutions, applying good practice and up-to-date technical knowledge to business problems. You will work on your own initiative but also collaborate closely with developers, UI/UX designers, and stakeholders.

Recent projects include a web and mobile product catalog for sales reps, a data lake joining 9 ERPs across a dozen divisions, a machine learning tool that speeds up merging acquired parts inventories, a prototype for quickly building common marketing sites for new acquisitions, AI that reads insurance claim text and photos to generate supplements, replacing a custom ecommerce system with a standard, more flexible one, and an application that combines Shopify and inventory data to forecast when to reorder from vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business stakeholders across portfolio companies to understand their problems, then weigh build versus buy and choose the best solution.
  • Lead the design, build, rollout, and ongoing improvement of an open-source enterprise platform for Bertram Capital and its portfolio companies.
  • Connect existing systems and data sources to new enterprise solutions, planning and running data migrations, APIs, and workflow integrations.
  • Lead complete ERP-to-ERP migrations for portfolio companies: assess the current state, map and clean data, convert it, plan the cutover, validate, and stabilise after go-live.
  • Work with project managers to set migration scope, timelines, milestones, and risks, and give regular status updates so delivery stays on time.
  • Assess, implement, and support alternative solutions that improve enterprise operations, scalability, and user adoption.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain technology solutions that meet client and business requirements.
  • Work with UI/UX designers to build attractive, intuitive interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience working closely with end users on requirements, implementation, and rollout of enterprise systems.
  • Experience building applications on Google Cloud, AWS, and/or Azure.
  • Experience with several languages, such as Java, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Experience building or implementing proprietary and/or open-source enterprise applications.
  • Hands-on experience developing on or customising CRM platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SuiteCRM, or Odoo.
  • A track record of leading full-lifecycle ERP-to-ERP migrations, including data conversion, cutover, and post-go-live support.
  • Understanding of how CRM and ERP systems connect, including customer master data, quoting, and order-to-cash workflows.
  • Experience working within a structured delivery framework such as Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid, alongside project managers.
  • Experience with integration patterns such as messaging and APIs.
  • Solid experience with database design and management.
  • Strong grasp of software architecture and design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking in fast-paced settings.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently to find the best answer to a problem.

Conditions

The expected total annual compensation is $155,000 to $170,000. Final pay may depend on skills, experience, and qualifications. Profit sharing is also part of total compensation.
