Description

You will join the development team of a game studio to shape the story of its game, working with writers and designers on story arcs, dialogue and characters that serve the overall narrative themes. The goal is to bring the richly built world of the series to life.

The team is made up of people who take ownership, learn through play and aim to make games that stay with players long after they finish.

Responsibilities

  • Take narrative content from first idea to finished work, keeping the tone and thematic depth consistent across the whole game.
  • Write scripts for every narrative tier: critical path story, supporting side content and systemic dialogue.
  • Write detailed character bios, sample writing and casting sides for voice actors.
  • Put narrative content and scripts into the game using Unreal Engine and the studio's own narrative tools.
  • Play the game regularly, give narrative and design feedback, and help improve writing pipelines and workflows.
  • Work closely with design, art, engineering, animation and audio teams to deliver on the creative vision, keep up with new technology and solve development problems.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional writing experience for games, television, film or theatre.
  • 2-3 published works of fiction. Video game credits are strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with narrative game tools and Unreal Engine, or the willingness and ability to learn them quickly.
  • A portfolio of strong storytelling. Writing samples, preferably 2-3, are required to interview.
  • You can work through ambiguity, spot unresolved narrative problems and take ownership of finding clear solutions.
  • You respond quickly and constructively to critique and can make fast, high-quality revisions based on new insights or limits.
  • You are a dependable, positive presence who looks for ways to connect your work with other disciplines and helps build a supportive team.
  • You communicate clearly in writing and speech, can explain complex ideas to varied audiences and give hard feedback with empathy and professionalism.
  • You have worked well in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • You are persistent, self-motivated and proactive, and you keep your quality and effectiveness up under pressure and shifting priorities.
  • You listen actively, build trust across all levels of an organization and handle differing views with tact and emotional intelligence.
  • You welcome feedback, want to keep learning, and keep a sharp eye for detail and organization.
  • You drive your own work forward, and you uphold the company's core values and help keep its culture positive and respectful.
