Description

The team behind Men's Health and Women's Health is hiring a Senior Shooter/Editor to build out video across digital, social and broadcast.

The role is hands-on: you shoot with strong camera and lighting skills, make editorial calls, and take projects from production through the final cut.

You will help set the visual direction for two health and wellness brands.

The company runs 30 brands that reach close to 130 million people each month. Its teams mix journalism and storytelling with technology, data and commerce.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot and edit short and long-form video for both brands, including studio, field, talent-led, documentary, branded and social-first work.
  • Act as lead shooter on a large share of productions, deciding on camera, lighting, framing, movement, sound and coverage.
  • Define and keep up a consistent visual style for both brands, and pass on creative direction and references to producers, talent, crews and editors.
  • Take cuts from rough edit to final delivery, managing pacing, clarity, polish, audio, shot choice, continuity and intent, and act on notes quickly.
  • Work with producers and editors from pre-production onward to pick the right approach and plan coverage ahead of time.
  • Direct high-profile talent when needed and keep the set professional, productive and collaborative.
  • Brief and supervise freelance camera and production crews, holding them to standards for safety, quality, communication and consistency.
  • Handle media workflows: ingest, organize, log, archive and hand off footage, and fix common storage and post-production problems.
  • Add motion graphics, audio mixing, color correction and grading, and bring in post partners when extra help is needed.
  • Propose new visual ideas and production methods, and keep up with changing formats, platforms and audience habits.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional video editing and motion design work, with a portfolio and credits across traditional and digital video.
  • Extensive camera and production experience, including lighting and camera work in both studio and on-location settings.
  • Advanced skill in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere Pro. Experience with After Effects is expected. Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve or similar tools are a plus.
  • Sharp editorial judgment, with an eye for sound, pacing, shot selection, continuity and story, and the ability to shoot with the finished edit in mind.
  • Working knowledge of audio mixing, color correction or grading, media storage and post-production workflows.
  • Experience working with talent and the confidence to give creative direction and keep a professional set.
  • Strong organization, communication and teamwork, with the ability to juggle several projects and respond well to feedback.
  • Calm and adaptable, with a solutions-focused approach in fast-paced production and on short-turnaround jobs.
  • You must be willing to work early mornings, late nights, weekends and travel as schedules demand.
  • The role is based in New York, NY and requires working from the office four days per week.
