Description

The company's goal is to pursue the truth and help people make sense of the world. Journalism sits at the center of the business, and its strategy depends on making reporting strong enough that readers choose to pay for it.

The newsroom sends journalists to report from nearly 160 countries, and readers encounter the work in print, audio, and on the website and app.

The team tells stories and reaches audiences with new reporting and packaging methods. Some projects are funded by commercial, nonprofit or other backers and advertisers. The team favors work that teaches the newsroom something, such as new visual formats, ways to engage audiences, or reporting techniques.

The desk links the newsroom, the business side, R&D and the subbrands, lining up their goals, priorities and major opportunities.

Recent projects include a look at pasta tourism, the hidden LGBT history of Harlem, the risk of flooding in New York, and a very popular series on the math of everyday life.

This role leads large and fast-turnaround visual projects. You bring an entrepreneurial approach, strong journalistic and digital judgment, and the tact to get different groups working together, while staying true to the company's values and to visual storytelling as it changes.

Good judgment, creativity and close attention to detail matter here, along with a record of publishing ambitious work, working across teams, and turning story ideas into visual concepts and the reverse.

This is an in-office role in New York, with office attendance four days a week. Some remote work may be possible, depending on departmental guidance.

  • Help the desk build new digital experiences and story forms.
  • Guide the team toward greater skill in conceiving, editing and producing new story forms.
