Description

The company's newsroom sends journalists to report from nearly 160 countries.

The team is a temporary opening on the discovery team, a group of writers and editors who apply the review team's approach to service journalism in formats beyond the standard product guide.

The role is part-time at 15-20 hours per week and may be done remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Revise and sharpen multiple articles and other pieces from different writers while keeping deadlines and workflow on track.
  • Review writers' supporting documents and notes.
  • Work with senior editors to bring stories up to the established editorial standards.
  • Respond to questions from fact checkers, copy editors and producers so pieces are ready to publish.
  • Coordinate photography plans with the photo editors.
  • Take on other related work as assigned.
  • Uphold journalistic independence and the company's commitment to seeking the truth and helping readers understand events.

Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of experience at a media company, including at least 1 year working directly with and editing writers.
  • Preferred: enthusiasm for the work, balanced by skepticism toward marketing claims and unproven ideas.
  • Preferred: experience writing or editing timely short-form content, working with an art director or photo editor on visual presentation, and explaining complex ideas with charts, graphs or infographics is advantageous.
  • Submit your own work and do not use GenAI tools to generate substantive content during the application and interview process.

Conditions

Temporary, part-time role of 15-20 hours per week.

Remote work is possible.

Hourly base pay is $42.66 USD.

The company is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on sex, age, race, citizenship, disability, veteran or military status or other legally protected characteristics.
